In Shippensburg
H. Shippensburg Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the first Bloom Festival in Shippensburg. The festival will be May 2, 2015 from 8 am – 3 pm rain or shine. Food, craft vendors, activities will be placed along McCreary Avenue in both the Borough (Burd Street) and Firefighters Activity Center (Orange Street) parking areas. Festival visitors will be able to use the borough’s new walkway (between the post office and historical society) to access all areas. The festival also will feature a variety of children’s activities, inflatables, music & more.
AYSO FUN DAY – The community is invited to Southampton Park, 200 Airport Road, Shippensburg on Saturday, May 2nd from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm to enjoy a fun day at the park and learn about the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO). There will be a DJ, Soccer games, Inflatable fields to play in, concession stand, raffles, door prizes. Funds raised will go towards new equipment, tournament fees, etc.
Little Princess Playhouse at Shippensburg University will present “Magic at the Castle” on two Saturdays, April 25 and May 2 at 10 a.m. and again at 11:30 a.m. Shows take place inside Stewart Hall on the Shippensburg University campus. Tickets are $4 and will be sold at the door; seating is limited. Parking is free and available at nearby Memorial Auditorium.
Beyond Shippensburg
Apple Blossom Festival will be held Saturday & Sunday, May 2 & 3 from 9 am – 5 pm at the South Mountain Fairgrounds in Biglerville, Pa. It offers events for the whole family, including crafts, gifts, contests, pony rides, kiddie tractor pulls, petting zoos, inflatables, bands, antique car and Corvette shows, wine and hard cider tasting and sales. Under 12 FREE, Over 12 is $5 admission, free parking is available.
18th Annual Trout Derby is May 2 and 3 hosted by Chambersburg Noontime Lions Club. They’ll have the Big Trout Contest with an estimated $2,000 payout, raffles with $3,500+ worth of prizes and more! Check their website for details or to register: http://troutderby.com/
First Fridays start May 1st in Chambersburg! Visit Downtown Business Council of Chambersburg for all the events and specials. Festivities start at 5 pm and include the Fire Up the Fountain Ceremony, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, extended shop hours, shop and restaurant specials as well as free events throughout downtown highlighting artists and musicians.
Downtown Carlisle’s First Friday events returns May 1, 2015. Join in the fun, bring the family, and enjoy downtown. May’s theme is Art Walk.
Greencastle is also having First Fridays. Go to First Friday Greencastle Schedule to view events and specials. May’s theme is flashback to the fifties including classic cars from the ‘50s and ‘60s!

Salvation Army Fabric Fair is now through May 2 at North Pointe Business Center, 2625 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. May 1st 8 am – 4 pm May 2nd 8 am – noon. Proceeds benefit Salvation Army, Chambersburg. Items to be available for sale are sewing machines, thread, crafts, buttons, lace, curtains and knitting supplies, latch hook items, rug yarn, supplies, ribbon, dolls and supplies, draperies and accessories, antiques, patterns, wool and cotton material by the bag, yarn, needlework and quilting supplies & more.
Michael’s Kids Club is every Saturday from 10 am – Noon for ages 3 and up. For $2 your child can make a seasonal craft for 30 minutes while you shop! On Saturday, May 2nd the children will be making a Mother’s Day Wood Frame.
