Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend in & beyond Shippensburg!
The 35th annual season of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire at Mount Hope Estate kicks off on August 1, 2015 and continues every Saturday and Sunday and Labor Day Monday through October 25, 2015. The Faire features costumed characters, themed entertainment, music, dancing, 90 shows daily, 22 royal kitchens, artisan merchants, and handcrafted wares. Mount Hope Estate is located in Northern Lancaster County at 2775 Lebanon Road, Manheim, PA. The event is rain or shine. Gates open 11 am and close at 8 pm. A day devoted to Butterflies is coming to Ashcombe Farm & Greenhouses, 906 W Grantham Rd,
Mechanicsburg. On Saturday, August 1st from 9 AM – 3 PM there will be children’s butterfly & caterpillar crafts, fun displays, visit from the PA Honey Princess, author visit, and a butterfly release at noon. Chicken barbecue will be available to purchase. 11 AM – FREE tour of the Butterfly Gardens; 1 PM – FREE informational Butterfly Bush session; 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 1 PM Fairy Garden Classes $20 fee includes all plants & materials needed (must pre-register)
The Music Man Jr. at the Capitol Theatre on August 1st at 2 pm & 7 pm! Tickets are sold at the door, cash or check only. General admission $10/ age 12 & under FREE. Sponsored by Chambersburg Community Theatre.
The Cellular Connection (TCC) stores across the U.S. are inviting local families to bring their school aged children into their stores on August 1st for School Rocks Backpack Giveaway. The backpacks are filled with pencils, paper, a pencil box, folders, glue and more! Backpacks will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last on August 1st from NOON – 3 pm. Each participating TCC store will donate 200 backpacks. Franklin County Truck Convoy & Show will be held Saturday, August 1st at B&M Diesel Services 6446 Lincoln Way West in St. Thomas. This annual event raises money for the Make A Wish Foundation. Truck Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the Convoy pulls out at 10:30 a.m. with awards at 3:00 p.m. The 32-mile long convoy begins at B&M Diesel in Saint Thomas, Lincoln Way through Chambersburg and Fayetteville and then turns north on to Black Gap Road (Pa. 997) and heads past Scotland to Greenvillage, then turns south on U.S. 11 to return to Chambersburg, then west on Lincoln Way to St. Thomas. Bing your friends and family to enjoy the day’s events, including music, food, vendors, prizes, raffles, kids’ games and activities. (Please note the convey is expected to create traffic delays so be patient this weekend if you are in Franklin County during this time).
1st Annual Duffield Fest will be held August 1st at The Old Duffield School, 2168 Mont Alto Rd., Chambersburg 9 a.m.-5 p.m. D!NG performs. Venders, crafters, antiques, food and more.
Windy Knoll Farm Market & Creamery Open House will be held July 30, 31 & Aug. 1 at 2685 Spring Rd, Chambersburg. Ice Cream, Sandwich Shop, Deli Sale, Local Produce. On Saturday, there will be FREE Balloon Animals for the children.
Pennsylvania’s largest amateur athletic festival – the Keystone_State_Games Festival of Sports (modeled after the Olympic Games) and the 1st Annual America’s Finest Games – a sports festival for First Responders will take place in the Greater York Area during the week of July 29 – August 2, 2015.
Cluggy’s Family Amusement Center, 393 Beddington Blvd., Chambersburg, is hosting Mickey the Kid from 94.3 WQCM on Saturday, August 1st. Mickey the Kid will be playing Laser Tag between 11 am – 1 pm. The first 10 Laser Tag customers that day will receive one Free Go Kart ride. The cost to play their newest attraction is $8.50. Players must be ages 8 and up. Players will also receive a free hot dog, bag of chips and small soda.
A Miniature Train rides the rails at Norlo Park, 3050 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville on Saturdays. It is open to riders of all ages. The train, complete with a cattle car and caboose, is FREE to ride on Saturdays weather permitting from 1 PM to 4 PM throughout Summer & Fall!

Michael’s Kids Club is every Saturday from 10 am – Noon for ages 3 and up. For $2 your child can make a seasonal craft for 30 minutes while you shop! On Saturday, August 1st the children will be making a Rain Stick. Sign up at Classes & Events | Michaels Stores.
