Middle Spring Watershed Association Stream Awareness Day will be held on Saturday, September 5th. It begins at 9 am and ends sometime after noon with the end of the duck derby. Arts and crafts projects for kids: build a nest box for bluebirds or wood ducks. Aquariums with small fish and more creatures from the stream for kids to view. All activities will occur between the bridges in Middle Spring where Middle Spring Road and Maclays Mill road intersect (200 Middle Spring Road, Shippensburg). Most activities (except bird boxes) will be FREE. Tickets for each duck are $4. Food available for purchase.
The Local Gathering, 611 Shippensburg Rd. is hosting a few events this weekend. Friday, Sept. 4th – Coffeehouse Open Mic Night 7 pm – 10 pm, doors open at 5:30 pm. Saturday, Sept 5th. – Farmers Market, Artisans, and Children’s craft time 8 am – 1 pm.
The Demolition Derby in Shippensburg will be held Saturday, September 5th at 7:30 pm. The annual event at the Shippensburg Fairgrounds features local drivers who deliberately ram their vehicles into one another. The last driver whose vehicle is still operational is awarded the victory. Admission is $10, Children 6 & under admitted free. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food is available for purchase.
Beyond Shippensburg
Dog contests, dog groomers, dog trainers, dog treats and more at Chambersburg’s Fido’s First Friday event, on Sept. 4th from 5 pm – 8 pm. Davis Family Media & Design will be bringing fun props to Fido’s First Friday for professional dog portraits. The cost is $5, which will be donated to Knick Knack Pittie Pack. Dog contests 7:15 on the Courthouse Plaza.
Sept. 5th, 9am – 5pm: Celtic Festival at Two Mile House, Carlisle will feature family friendly events, including Highland Athletics, Scottish Clans, Border Collie demonstrations, vendors, live music – including folk singers, bands, dancers, international performers & more. Adults $10, Children under 10 free
Frankenweenie (PG) will be shown on the The Capitol Theatre’s Big Screen Friday, September 4, 2015 at 7:00 pm. All movie tickets are $5.00. Popcorn, candy, soda and bottled water will also be sold in the concession area. The theatre is located at 159 S. Main St. in Downtown Chambersburg. The Box Office is open one hour before the movie starts.
Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Annual Fall Show The event will include steam traction engines, an old PRR steam train, antique tractors, working saw mill, model train exhibit, food, flea market stands, and live music. Sunday, August 30 through Monday, September 7
Friends of Kings Gap will bring Music on the Mountain to Kings Gap Environmental Education Center, 500 Kings Gap Road, Carlisle on Sunday, September 6th. A Celtic concert featuring Seasons from 3-5pm and Celtic Martin Family from 5:30-7:30 pm. The concerts are free, but donations are accepted. Bring your blanket or chair. Rain or shine. Food will be available for purchase.
The PA Fish & Boat Commission is celebrating Labor Day with reduced price 1-day adult fishing licenses. Buy a license for $1 ($2.70 after fees) and take your kids fishing on Sept. 7th. For more information, go to http://fishandboat.com/

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire: Heroes of the Realm at Mount Hope Estate will be held Sept. 5, 6 & 7, 2015. The Faire features costumed characters, themed entertainment, music, dancing, 90 shows daily, royal kitchens, artisan merchants, and handcrafted wares. Mount Hope Estate is located in Northern Lancaster County at 2775 Lebanon Road, Manheim, PA. The event is rain or shine. Gates open 11 am and close at 8 pm. $15 Admission with Service ID – Service members, EMTs, Police, Firefighters, etc. and their immediate family members receive special admission price this weekend. Celebrate Labor Day Monday at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire with 2-for-1 adult admission with coupon from Turkey Hill.

Michael’s Kids Club is every Saturday from 10 am – Noon for ages 3 and up. For $2 your child can make a seasonal craft for 30 minutes while you shop! On Saturday, Sept. 5th the children will be making a Football Windsock. Sign up at Classes & Events | Michaels Stores.
North Square Farmers Market, 50 N. Main Street, Chambersburg continues on Saturday, Sept. 5th from 8 a.m. to noon. Over twenty local vendors will offer local produce as well as cheeses, breads, fresh-cut flowers, baked goods, handmade soaps, & MORE. Children ages 3 -12 can sign up for POP (Power of Produce) Club. Members receive $2 in tokens per market visit to be used on produce or vegetable plant.
