Shippensburg’s “Drop the Anchor” New Year’s Eve Celebration
This New Year’s Eve, bring the family to downtown Shippensburg for the annual Drop the Anchor event. The family-friendly community event, sponsored by the Shippensburg Rotary Club, will be held from 8 pm to midnight Thursday, December 31st at the intersection of King and Earl streets. There is no admission charge and the evening’s activities are free with the exception of food vendors.
Phantom Shadow will DJ for the evening and provide inflatable games & rides for ALL ages. There will be free carriage rides by Cromer’s Carriages (8 pm – 10/10:30 pm) and free party favors provided by the Beistle Company. Christ United Methodist Church, 47 E. King Street will be open for the evening if you need to warm up. They will also be offering plenty of free goodies including cookies, hot dogs, sauerkraut, snacks, hot chocolate, coffee, as well as crafts for the children.
At midnight, the anchor will be dropped and 2016 will be officially welcomed.
Event sponsors include Rotary Club of Shippensburg, Minnequa Club, Hub City Club, Orrstown Bank, and Volvo. Other contributors include The Beistle Company, Phantom Shadow Entertainment, Cumberland Valley Hose Company #2, Chamberlin & Wingert, Signs Signs, Borough of Shippensburg, University Grille, Dr. Gary Davis Family Dentistry, and Knute’s Pub & Grill.
Parking Info:
The Borough will close King Street around 6 p.m. between Fayette and Penn streets for this event and traffic will be detoured around the center of town. Free parking is available downtown in the borough lot between Burd Street and Martin Avenue, Seneca Street and McCreary Avenue (near the police station). Metered on-street parking spaces are always free after 5 p.m.
