A Peek Inside the Pennsylvania Farm Show
The 100th Pennsylvania Farm Show kicked off this weekend. There is still time to attend the show held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center, 2300 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg. The show continues this week through Saturday, Jan. 16th.
Traffic around the Farm Show Complex may be backed up so add extra travel time and be patient. The best time to visit is early in the day.
Admission to the Farm Show is free, however there is an extra charge for the butterfly house, tractor ride, merry-go-round, Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Rodeos Jan. 14-16, food and vendor purchases. Parking is $15 at all Farm Show-operated lots.
Here’s what you can expect if you decide to visit.
The Weis Farm-to-Shelf Display follows the journey from farm to grocery store. Apples (pictured), Pork, Dairy and Potatoes are featured.
If you are family with young children, the next highlighted items might be of interest!
The Carousel is located in the Main Hall. The carousel costs a minimum donation of $2 per rider.
The tractor ride is also a $2 donation.
The butterfly exhibit from Folk’s Butterfly Farm is sure to be a hit with all ages. The cost is $2 per person (2 & under free). Walk in to the flight house and feed the butterflies! You may also watch the activity on a screen.
A new butter sculpture is featured each year. This year in honor of the 100th show, the butter sculpture pays tribute to the people who participate in the many contests and exhibits at the Pennsylvania Farm Show. The sculpture was crafted from 1,000 pounds of butter over 14 days.
The Food Court showcases Pennsylvania Food products. Large signs hung from the ceiling can easily be seen as you are trying to navigate your way through the Food Court to your favorite food item. The food court has a lot of options from goat meat tacos, pulled pork, beef brisket, lamb stew, chocolate covered bacon, breakfast pretzel rolls, and MORE!
This year you can choose from 3 Milkshake flavors – vanilla, chocolate and the new 100th anniversary flavor of strawberries and cream! The cost is $4.
Popular Fresh Mozzarella Cheese Cubes with marina are also a hit!
New at the Food Court this year is the “Blend,” a combination of beef and diced mushrooms introduced by the PA Mushroom Farmers of PA. Pictured is the Mushroom Blended Burger as well as the grilled portabella mushroom sandwich.
Potato Donuts are a popular choice as well.
History walls are very informative and provides a neat way to see how the Agriculture Industry has changed.
This year the learning stations provide an opportunity to learn about PA agricultural through hands on interactive activities. There are 32 locations each marked with this sign and shown on the map.
You can’t visit the Farm Show without peeking at the animals. However, there is no duckling swim, poultry, or peacock feathers due to the potential Avian flu at the 2016 Farm Show.
Tractors provide a perfect photo opportunity.
