Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend in Shippensburg and Beyond!
Shippensburg
Lawilowan American Indian Festival invites you to celebrate the Native American heritage and culture with an end of winter pow wow! The family friendly pow wow will be held March 12, 2016 10 am – 5 pm at the Shippensburg University Student Recreation Center. You will find native dancing, drumming, singing, Native flute players, Native food and crafts. Bring a chair to assure you have a seat. Cost is $5 per person, under 7 and over 65 are free. The Student Recreation Center is located on the campus of Shippensburg University, 533 Lancaster Drive, Shippensburg. All proceeds will benefit the American Diabetes Association with a focus on children’s diabetes. Diabetes is one of the most prevalent diseases among young Native American children. The Annual Reading Rainbow Event will be held on Saturday, March 12 at the Shippensburg Firefighters Activity Center, 33 West Orange Street from 8:30 am to noon. Admission is FREE! The first 250 children will receive a free book! There will be door prizes and free face-painting. Available for purchase are Books, Food & Drinks, and Caricatures. Shippensburg Middle School Jazz Band will perform from 8:30 am – 9:00 am. Readers 9:30 am & 10:30 am. Matt Allen’s Reptile Show 10 am. Prince Street Ribbon Praise Team 11 am.
The Beistle Company in Shippensburg is hosting a Spring Extravaganza on March 12. Hours are 8 am till 2 pm. There will be over 50 vendors – yard sale, craft, & small business.
On Saturday, March 12 8 am – 2 pm, Trinity’s Spring Bloom Craft Show will feature homemade, handcrafted items of all kinds, breakfast & lunch menu, bargains from Trinity’s Clothing Closet and lots more!
Winter Rummage Sale at The Local Gathering Church of the Nazarene on March 12 8:00 am – 2:00pm. The sale is located at 611 Shippensburg Rd. (Newburg Rd Rt. 696 out of Shippensburg; Half Mile past the Ridge Road) Located in lower level Family Area.
Memorial Lutheran Church Fellowship Outreach Committee will host its 8th annual Breakfast with the Easter Bunny from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12 in the fellowship hall of the church, located at 34 E. Orange St., Shippensburg. Breakfast consists of pancakes, sausage, fruit cocktail, doughnut holes, coffee, milk and fruit punch. Activities include door prizes, Easter crafts and a visit from the Easter Bunny. Reservations are not required but appreciated by contacting church staff at 717-532-4614 or office@memluth.org.
This Saturday, March 12 9 am – noon at the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church parking lot, Middle Spring Watershed Association (MSWA) will be selling bluebird boxes ($5) and wood duck boxes ($15), while supplies last. These are functional boxes made of rough-sawn lumber, priced at approximately the cost of the materials. This is a not-for-profit sale meant primarily to make boxes available locally to provide nesting for these species. Instructions about box placement will be available.
Newburg
Otterbein Acres Open Barn is this Saturday, March 12. John and Lena Fisher will open their farm in Newburg where you can experience farm life for a day. Visit the newly born lambs, see sheep shearing, and much more on Saturday, March 12. Otterbein Acres is located at 10079 Otterbein Church Road, Newburg, PA 17240. Visitors may come between 8 am and 4 pm. There is no parking or entry fee. However, homemade food will be available for sale including Chicken Bar-b-Que, freshly made Donuts, and Sausage sandwiches. Cheese made on the farm, will also be available to try.
Roxbury
The Blue Mountain Skating Rink is located 1 mile west of Roxbury, PA on Rt 641. The roller skating rink is open for public skating on Friday evenings from 7-9 PM Admission is only $3 and skate rentals are $1. Kids 6 and under are FREE and non-skating adults are FREE.
Carlisle
Meadowbrooke Gourds, located at 125 Potato Road Carlisle, PA 17015, is having its Spring Fest on two weekends in March. On March 12 & 13 and March 19 & 20 from 10 am – 4 pm each day you may create your own bunny and chick or paint your own eggs and baskets! No reservation is needed for this event. All ages are welcome. There is a charge for the workshops. The prices range from $1.50 to $35.00 depending on the gourd you choose to create. Thje last seating is at 3:00 PM which allows you an hour to finish your crafting. If you will need more time, please come early. Find all the details at Spring Fest 2016.
Chambersburg
The Easter Bunny will arrive at the Chambersburg Mall on Friday, March 11th at 12pm! He will be there from 12pm-8pm for your visit or to get your picture taken! Easter Bunny hours are as follows: Mon – Sat: 12 pm – 8 pm with No Break; Sunday: 12 pm – 5 pm with No break Extended hours: Sat (3/19) 10 am – 8 pm with No break; Wed-Sat (3/23-3/26) 10 am – 8 pm with No break
Winter Bounce Festival at the Chambersburg Mall, 3055 Black Gap Road on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays March 11 – 13. A majority of the amusement rides will be for ages 12 and under, but there will be a few all age attractions. Also available for purchase will be Make Your Own Stuffy Bears, Face Painting, Air Brush Tattoos, and Personalized Name Art. Ages 3 and up $10; Ages 2 and under $5; Full Month Pass $100
Arsenic and Old Lace will be performed at the Capitol Theatre, 159 S. Main Street, Chambersburg on Fridays-Sundays through March 20. Arsenic and Old Lace is a dark comedy that explores human family relationships and the influence genetics may play in morality, mental health, hobbies and homicide.
Hagerstown
The 22nd Annual HCC Alumni Flower & Garden Show will be held on Saturday, March 12, from 9 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, March 13, from 10 am to 4 pm, in the Athletic, Recreation and Community Center (ARCC). This year’s theme is a taste of nature. Admission is $5 for adults and children under 12 are free.
Harrisburg
March 10 – 13, 2016 is the Pennsylvania Home Show at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. Find everything to beautify, update and maintain your home at this year’s Pennsylvania Home Show. Hours: Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10 am to 8 pm. Sunday 10 am to 6 pm. Admission: $8.00 Children 12 and under free. Free parking onsite.
Hershey
Zoo America has $5.50 Fridays where all visitors get in for $5.50 every Friday during the winter through March 18, 2016. Admission is regularly $11 per person for ages 9-54, $9 for ages 3-8 & 55+, and free for ages 2 and under.
