What’s Happening | May 20, 21, and 22

Shippensburg

The 3rd annual Shippensburg Reptile and Small Animal Expo will be held May 21 from 9 AM – 3 PM inside the Thought Lot, 37 East Garfield St, Shippensburg.  A variety of reptiles and supplies will be on display and for sale.  Black Rock Reptiles will be giving presentations at 10 AM – noon – 2 PM. There will be a food vendor providing a lunch menu and snacks/drinks. Admission is $4, children under 6 are Free.

The Local Gathering, 611 Shippensburg Road is having their first Vendor and Craft Show Fundraiser with 40 vendors/crafters on Saturday, May 21 10 AM – 4 PM.  There will be baked goods and yardsale items for sale as well. Directions:  Newburg Rd Rt. 696 out of Shippensburg; Half Mile past the Ridge Road

Maplewood Produce and Greenhouse is having a Spring Color Fest!  On May 20 & May 21, enjoy free refreshments, great deli specials, and 10% off all plants and in stock lawn furniture.

Cabin on King has POSTPONED their Customer Appreciation Day.  Cabin on King is hosting a Customer Appreciation Day this coming Saturday, May 21st from Noon to 4 PM.  The afternoon will be filled with Prizes, a Petting Zoo, Face Painting, Kids Activities, Cotton Candy and more.  At 6 PM,  hear the music of Tresa Paul.

SHAPE’s 11th Annual Member Exhibit continues this week.  Come see artwork from over 20 different artists.  Wednesday to Friday – 4 to 7 PM; Saturday – 11 AM to 4 PM.

Newville

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre, 3290 Ritner Highway, Newville, is open Friday – Saturday, May 20  & May 21.  Gates open at 7 p.m. First features begins at approximately 8:35 PM. First Feature: Captain America: Civil War   Second Feature:  Barber Shop The Next Cut  $8 Adults;  $4 Children 3-12; FREE for Children Under 3.  Sunday, May 22 – Bonus Single Feature Captain America:  Civil War.  Sunday’s admission includes one free small soda OR small popcorn!

Roxbury

The Blue Mountain Skating Rink is located 1 mile west of Roxbury, PA on Rt 641.  The roller skating rink is open for public skating this Friday, May 20 from 7-9 PM Admission is only $3 and skate rentals are $1.  Kids 6 and under are FREE and non-skating adults are FREE.

Chambersburg

North Square Farmers Market, 50 N. Main Street, Chambersburg kicks off its 8th season Saturday, May 21 from 8 AM to NoonFree parking at the Courthouse.  Over twenty local vendors will offer local produce as well as cheeses, breads, fresh-cut flowers, baked goods, handmade soaps, & MORE. Live music by Dan McCarthy at 8 AM and Don’t Look Down at 10 AM. Children ages 3 -12 can sign up for POP (Power of Produce) Club.  Members receive $2 in tokens per market visit to be used on produce or vegetable plants! Membership in POP Club is free.

Franklin County PA Master Gardeners is holding a Spring Plant & Greenhouse Sale on May 21st, 9 AM – 1 PM, Franklin County Extension Office, 181 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg.  Lines form early. Bring your wagon and boxes. Come early for the best choices. Allow time to visit both the greenhouse sale across the lane & the plant sale at the stream.

There will be a Jeep show by River Raiders Off Road and Shively Motors, 801 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg on May 21st 9 AM – 2 PM.  The first 50 Jeeps registered will receive dash plaques. Trophies will be awarded for Best of Show, Lifted, New, Classic and Original.  Entrance fee is five cans of food for The Maranatha Food Pantry in Chambersburg.  Vendors and food stand; raffle of donated items.

Singing in the Barn, 2778 Mont Alto Road, Chambersburg, summer opening Southern Gospel Concert is May 21st 6:30 PM.  Performing is The Goodman Revival and Russ Taff.  Admission is free; a goodwill offering is accepted.  Lines form outside, doors open at 5:30 PM. Lines will form outside the barn and you may enter the barn at 5:30 PM

Lovesick Blues, a musical concert featuring some of the greatest hits of Hank Williams Sr. and Patsy Cline, is back at Totem Pole Playhouse for 8 shows. May 17 – May 222 PM or 8 PM.  Totem Pole Playhouse, 9555 Golf Course Lane, Fayetteville.

A Rabies clinic will be held Saturday, May 21st, 9 AM – Noon at Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road West, Chambersburg.  $8 per pet; bring paperwork proof of last year’s vaccination and this will be a 3-year shot. Proceeds will benefit CVAS.

Mercersburg

Swine, Wine & Roses Festival at the Conococheague Institute will be held May 21 (10 AM – 5 PM) and May 22 (Noon – 4 PM). $5 per person.  Smell the roses from hundreds of bushes throughout the site, sip some wine, sample craft beers and chow down on award-winning barbecue. Living history and bluegrass and Americana music will be featured. Free souvenir glass with purchase of first glass of wine or beer.

Tuscarora Wildlife Education Project’s 3rd Annual Field Day is scheduled Saturday, May 21 9 AM – 2 PM at Charles Brightbill Environmental Center, 4881 Fort Loudon Rd., Mercersburg.  Located on the James Buchanan High School campus.  Learn about organizations in the community that work with animals, wildlife, habitat, and/or ecology.  There will be special speakers and activities for children. Concessions will be available.  This is a free event and open to the public.

Carlisle

Friday, May 20 – Sunday, May 22 is the Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals Show.  Features more than 2,000 show vehicles, as well as domestics, kit cars, motorcycles and trucks. Carlisle Fairgrounds, Carlisle.

Army Heritage Days will take place May 21 – 22.  The timeline living history event will cover soldier history from the 16th century to the present with a focus on the Vietnam War era. There will be lectures, re-enactors, military equipment displays, demonstrations, children’s activities and a meet-and-greet session with army veterans. 9  AM – 5 PM. U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center, Carlisle.

Newburg

Otterbein United Methodist Church’s Annual Strawberry Festival will be held Saturday, May 21st, 3 – 7 PM in the Fellowship Hall.  Homemade soups, hot dogs, hamburger BBQ, homemade ice cream and fresh strawberries and desserts.   Otterbein Church is located on the corner of Route 641 and Paxton Run Rd.

On Sunday, May 22, the Memorial Day Parade in Newburg will be held at 2 PM.

Gettysburg

On May 21, the Gettysburg Outdoor Antique Show will feature more than 120 antique dealers and collectors with furniture, coins, glass, jewelry, and toys. The event is held on Carlisle, Chambersburg, Baltimore and York Streets, along with Lincoln Square, all in Historic Downtown Gettysburg. The show,  held rain or shine, starts at 7 AM and lasts until 4 PM.

Harrisburg

On May 21 & May 22, Bass Pro Shops will kick off their Go Outdoors Family Event!  During this weekend, there will be FREE activities for Kids!  On both days the Catch & Release Pond will be open from 11 AM – 4 PM.  You can also get a free photo (download) from 11 AM – 5 PM.  Choose a bird or a frog to magically appear in your photo.  Saturday – May 21, Create a Firefly Hanging Craft; Sunday – May 22, Color a Raccoon Drawstring Bag.
