Friday & Saturday, July 1 – 2 at 7 PM is the East Coast Series Tractor/Truck Pulls at Shippensburg Fairgrounds. Monday, July 4, 2016, is Pennsylvania’s 2nd Fish-for-Free Day of the year! Pennsylvania’s Fish for Free Days allow residents and non-residents to legally fish on Pennsylvania waterways on the designated days with NO FISHING LICENSE REQUIRED (Trout/Salmon and Lake Erie permits are also NOT required). All other fishing regulations still apply.
Beyond Shippensburg
Carlisle Fire and Rescue Service’s Annual Carnival will be held on June 28 – July 2, 2016. Food will begin to be served at 5 PM, rides will start at 6:30 PM, and the nightly entertainment will begin at 7 PM. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening will be Family Nights where wristbands will be available to purchase for $20.00 which allow for unlimited rides on the midway. Beginning now through July 24 every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday from Noon – 5 PM, Bass Pro Shops will have activities and workshops! Hands on activities (archery, BB range, casting buckets & the ZING arcade) will run daily Noon- 5 PM. Craft runs daily Noon-2 PM (new craft each week). Educational Workshops will start daily at Noon and begin on the hour thru 4 PM. Complete a workshop and receive the corresponding pin for your 2016 Family Summer Camp lanyard! Free Family Activities on July 2-3 Weekend Only from Noon – 5 PM include: Catch & Release pond and Free Photo Download (choose a turtle or butterfly to magically appear in your photo).
On Saturday, July 2 The Outlet Shoppes at Gettysburg will have savings on summer shopping and family fun events. Enjoy free carriage rides from 10 AM – Noon. Boarding for the rides will take place at the Food Court. Sunday, July 3rd: Free crafts and coloring for the kids from 11AM – Noon at the Food Court. Plus the first 150 kids at the event will receive a free patriotic kite.
July 1 – 3 will be the Gettysburg Battle Re-enactment (GPS Location: 965 Pumping Station Road, Gettysburg, PA). The event will coincide with the actual dates of the battle – July 1 to 3 – at the site of the filming of the movie Gettysburg. Cumberland Drive-In Theatre, 3290 Ritner Highway, Newville, is open Friday – Sunday. Gates open at 7 p.m. First feature begins at approximately 9:10 PM. North Square Farmers Market, 50 N. Main Street, Chambersburg continues Saturday from 8 AM to Noon. Free parking at the Courthouse. Over twenty local vendors will offer local produce as well as cheeses, breads, fresh-cut flowers, baked goods, handmade soaps, & MORE. Children ages 3 -12 can sign up for POP (Power of Produce) Club. Members receive $2 in tokens per market visit to be used on produce or vegetable plants! Membership in POP Club is free.
On Saturday, July 2, the free miniature train rides continue at Norlo Park, 3050 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville. It is open to riders of all ages. The train, complete with a cattle car and caboose, is FREE to ride on Saturdays from 1 PM to 4 PM throughout Summer & Fall! Last Train boards at 3:50 pm. Donations are accepted.
Fireworks Locations
Williams Grove – July 1. Enjoy fireworks from inside Williams Grove Speedway after the races.
Roxbury – July 2. There will be a fireworks display at Roxbury Holiness Camp, 13763 Cumberland Hwy, Orrstown on Saturday, July 2. Activities from 6 PM – 8 PM with Fireworks at 9:30 PM. Community at Roxbury is sponsoring the fireworks.
Shippensburg – July 4. Shippensburg Community Parks and Recreation Authority will be hosting the annual 4th of July Celebration at Shippensburg Memorial Park. The Memorial Park Pool will be open for FREE to the public. The pool will open at 10 AM and close at 7 PM. Pool games will begin at 2 PM and will include relay races, lifeguard challenge, pop drop, water balloon toss, water balloon fight, and more! Veterans Stadium gates will open at 6 PM for spectators to set up chair or blankets to watch the firework show. The Concession Stand will also be open to buy snacks, food, and drinks. The Town Band entertains beginning at 8 PM. The Annual Candy Scramble will take place at 9:00 PM. Fireworks will start at approximately 9:30 PM. UPDATE! The Firework Show for tonight, July 4th will continue as scheduled! Veterans Stadium gates will open at approximately 6 PM for spectators to set up chairs/blankets to watch the show. The fireworks will start at approximately 9:20 PM! The 4th of July Pool Party at Shippensburg Memorial Park Pool has been postponed until Saturday, July 9th. The pool will still be open today as weather permits with discounted admission of $3/person.
Chamberburg – July 4. The annual 4th of July Fireworks and Events will be held Monday, July 4th starting around Noon with Fireworks at 9:20 PM. Update: The Independence Day celebration at Chambersburg’s Memorial Park has BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL SATURDAY JULY 9, 2016 due to the weather forecast.
Waynesboro – July 4. The Waynesboro Summer Jubilee is a patriotic festival held each summer to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday. The celebration features a full day of free entertainment, patriotic exhibits and exciting activities for children and adults of all ages. The day begins with a 1 Mile Kid’s Fun Run & 5K followed by a parade in the morning. The event offers live entertainment, food, drink, and craft vendors throughout the day, and concludes with the annual fireworks display at dusk. This year’s event will be held on Monday, July 4, 2016 in the area across from the Waynesboro Hospital. Update: Due to the forecasted weather, the Summer Jubilee committee has made the decision to postpone fireworks until Saturday July 9. All Jubilee events will be held rain or shine (no inflatables though due to safety concerns).
Newville – July 8. The 57th annual Newville Lions Club fair at the Newville Fairgrounds will have their annual Fireworks Show at 10 PM.
Gettysburg – July 4th. Celebrate the 4th of July in Gettysburg with The Willys, a patriotic pops concert and fireworks show. 5pm: Site and Concessions open (Food, soft drinks, ice cream, beer and wine will be available for purchase) or bring your own picnic. 6-7:30pm: Opening concert by The Willys 8:30-9:30pm: Gala Pops Orchestra. Fireworks will be launched at approximately 9:30 pm as the concert concludes from the southern end of the Gettysburg College campus. For more information visit www.destinationgettysburg.com
Hersheypark – July 4. Hersheypark’s 4th of July fireworks display starts at 10:15 PM.
Harrisburg Senators – July 4. Fireworks after their game on July 4th. The game will end at approximately 9 PM. Post game fireworks courtesy of the PA lottery.
The City of Harrisburg – July 4. Independence Day Food Truck Festival and Fireworks Show on Riverfront Park is a one-day family friendly free event featuring music, activities for children, a performance by the Harrisburg Symphony, and food. Fireworks will be set off directly after the Harrisburg Senators’ fireworks display.
