SHIPPENSBURG

Sunday, July 17th is national ice cream day! To celebrate, Cabin on King in Shippensburg is hosting a Brain Freeze Challenge at 4 PM.  The Brain Freeze Super Sundae consists of one scoop of all 16 regular flavors, 5 homemade Cabin Cookies, 3 bananas and 10 toppings! FRIDAY, JULY 15, 2016 1864 CIVIL WAR BALL

6:30PM – 9:30PM
The weekend kicks off with the 1864 Civil War Ball at Allison-Antrim Museum’s 19th century German Bank Bar in Greencastle, another Franklin County community occupied by Confederate troops during the Civil War. Participants will be guided by the Victorian Dance Ensemble, the performing troupe of the Civil War Dance Foundation, and are invited to dress in Civil War era attire, contemporary formal or contemporary business attire.  Tickets: $15/person or $25/couple.

SATURDAY, JULY 16, 2016 OLD MARKET DAY

9:00AM – 4:00PM
The annual Old Market Day will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 in downtown Chambersburg. Enjoy an old-fashioned, day long street festival featuring art, craft and food vendors, children’s activities, live entertainment.

SATURDAY, JULY 16, 2016 A CAPPELLA & UNPLUGGED

7:00PM
The highlight event preceding the 1864 Light Show is the final round of A Cappella & Unplugged, performed on the steps of the courthouse. Spectators can vote for their favorite act and have their in-person vote tabulated with online voting to select the winner, who will received $500 and bragging rights to the 2nd annual talent search contest.

SATURDAY, JULY 16, 2016 RE-ENACTMENT OF THE BURNING OF CHAMBERSBURG

The annual Re-enactment of the Burning of Chambersburg will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 starting at 6:00 PM. The ransoming and burning will begin at dusk, approximately 9:15 PM. Throughout the event, Confederate soldiers will be attempting to gather ransom money from the crowd, which will be donated to Franklin County Habitat for Humanity.

SATURDAY, JULY 16

Saturday evening will include historic walking tours, living history, exhibits, prizes, giveaways, old-fashioned photo booth, pets from the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, book signings, glow-in-the-dark face painting, and fun for kids.

SATURDAY, JULY 16 ILLUMINATE PARTY

10 PM at The Capitol Theatre
The free-admittance Illuminate Party will be held after the light show.  Enjoy more music from contestants of A Cappella & Unplugged, and have some fun with black light and karaoke.

NEWVILLE/CARLISLE

Carlisle Chrysler Nationals take place July 15 – July 17 at Carlisle Fairgrounds, 1000 Bryn Mawr Road.  Features more than 2,500 vehicles from all eras of the Chrysler brand, including classics, muscle cars and high-performance new models.

Meadowbrooke Gourds, 125 Potato Road, Carlisle, is having a Summer Celebration on Friday, July 15th from 5 PM – dusk.  Oops Sale, Gourd Float, Music, Music, Hayrides, and more.  Gourd float benefits the local chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.  Beer will be provided by Molly Pitcher Brewing Co.  Live music by The Road Toads from Chambersburg.  Food Stands.  Horse drawn Hayride.  Visit www.mbgourds.com for all the details!

ADDITIONAL EVENTS

Totem Pole Playhouse will present a FREE Children’s Theatre performance of “Rumpelstiltskin” at 10 AM on Saturday, July 16, and continuing July 23 and July 30. This show is suitable for children of all ages. Stay for a meet & greet after the show.  Totem Pole Playhouse, 9555 Golf Course Road, Fayetteville is located in Caledonia State Park between Chambersburg and Gettysburg.

On July 16, the Adams County Irish Festival will be held 10 AM – 5 PM at 100 Moose Road, Gettysburg.  The rain-or-shine event will offer music, dancers, craft and food vendors. Proceeds will benefit charitable community organizations in Adams County.

Franklin County Fair is going on now through Saturday, July 16.  Location: Franklin County Fairgrounds, 3725 Warm Spring Rd., Chambersburg.  Agricultural county fair with rides, exhibits, food, entertainment, truck & tractor pulls, demolition derby, pageants, and more.

The Rescue Hose Co. Fireman’s Carnival kicks off Monday, July 11, at the Blue Heron Events Center, 407 S. Washington St., and will run through Saturday, July 16. Food, rides and nightly entertainment. Cash bingo will also be held every night.

The Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter is holding a Sunshine and Summertime Barbecue from 4 PM to 8 PM Friday, July 15th.  The event is catered by Rosenberry’s and held at Norlo Park Community Room, 3050 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville.  Proceeds benefit the animals in the shelter.  $10 in advance; $11 at the door.

DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, Tipton will be having a Annual Native American Pow Wow on July 16-17.  Native American arts, crafts and competition dancing. Park opens at 11 AM, with grand entry at noon.

ONGOING ACTIVITIES

A Miniature Train rides the rails at Norlo Park, 3050 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville on Saturdays. It is open to riders of all ages. The train, complete with a cattle car and caboose, is FREE to ride on Saturdays weather permitting from 1 PM to 4 PM throughout Summer & Fall!

North Square Farmers Market, 50 N. Main Street, Saturday, July 16th from 8 AM to NoonChildren ages 3 -12 can sign up for POP (Power of Produce) Club.  Members receive $2 in tokens per market visit to be used on produce or vegetable plant.

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre, 3290 Ritner Highway, Newville  Friday – Sunday July 15th – 17th 1st Feature:  The Secret Life of Pets  2nd Feature:  Ghostbusters   Gates open at 7 p.m. First Feature begins at approximately 9:10 PM.

Michael’s Kids Club is every Saturday from 10 AM – Noon for ages 3 and up. For $2 your child can make a seasonal craft for 30 minutes while you shop! 

Beginning now through July 24 every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday from Noon – 5 PM, Bass Pro Shops will have activities and workshops!  Hands on activities (archery, BB range, casting buckets & the ZING arcade) will run daily Noon- 5 PM.   Craft runs daily Noon-2 PM (new craft each week).   Educational Workshops will start daily at Noon and begin on the hour thru 4 PM.   Complete a workshop and receive the corresponding pin for your 2016 Family Summer Camp lanyard!
