Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend!
Shippensburg
- The SHAPE Gallery will have their Annual Holiday Party on Friday, December 2. See glass artist Mike Peluso create one-of-a-kind glass ornaments, shop for one-of-a-kind gifts, and enjoy refreshments! The door opens at 6 PM.
- The Fellowship Ministry of Memorial Lutheran Church will be hosting a Free Breakfast with Santa for the children of our community on Saturday, December 3. The annual Santa Breakfast will be held at Memorial Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 34 E. Orange St. Shippensburg from 8 AM – 11 AM. Door prizes, craft & activities. Reservations are appreciated but drop-ins are welcome.
- West End Fire & Rescue Company, 49 Lurgan Ave, Shippensburg is holding their Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 3rd from 9 AM – 11 AM. Advance tickets are available at The Hair Cottage Salon or by contacting Samantha White at 717-658-9388. Cost $5 Adults (12+); $3 Children (Ages 3 – 11); 2 and under free.
- Southampton Township, Cumberland County is hosting a Christmas Craft & Vendor Event on December 3rd 9 AM – 1 PM. The event will be held at the Cleversburg Community Center, 56 Cleversburg Rd, Shippensburg. Local crafts and vendors in one place for your holiday shopping convenience.
- The Little Princess Playhouse returns in December with productions of “Elsa & the Snarls” and “A Princess Christmas.” The playhouse will present the holiday double-feature at 10 AM and again at 11:30 AM December 3 in Stewart Hall, Old Main Drive, Shippensburg. Tickets for the double feature are $5 and will be available at the door.
- Tiny World is now decorated and lighted for the holidays. Visit Tiny World at 6720 Rice Road, Shippensburg and see a miniature village whose tiny buildings are landscaped, lighted and furnished.
Newburg
- The Newburg Area Community Voices will present the story of Christmas through song, storytelling, and Christmas lights. The 42nd Annual Living Christmas Tree Presentations are: December 1, 2, and 3, 2016 at 7:00 PM & December 4, 2016 at 3:30 PM. The Newburg First Church of God is located at 260 Newburg Road, Newburg.
Newville
- Doubling Gap Church of God, 50 McCrea Rd, Newville is presenting a free live drive-thru nativity on December 2 & 3 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
Carlisle
- The Market of Curiosities, An Odd Market for Everyone, an alternative, craft and vintage market will feature more than 50 independent artists, vintage collectors, DIY crafters, breweries for beer tasting, food, and live musical acts. The event will take place December 3 from 11 AM – 8 PM at the at the Carlisle Expo Center at 100 K Street, Carlisle. $3/person; children under 12/free.
- Roots Cut Flower Farm, 2428 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle is having a Holiday POP-UP Shop! Their Wreath Sale Open House will be held for four days:
Friday November 25, Saturday November 26,Saturday December 3 and Saturday December 10. Hours: 10 am – 4 pm. Wreaths, greens, plants, local artists, and more!
- Carlisle Barracks is hosting the Christkindlesmarkt Holiday Crafts Bazaar on December 3, 9 AM – 2 PM. Free Admission and Parking. Open to the Public. The event is held the U.S.Army Heritage and Education Center (AHEC) located at 950 Soldiers Drive, Carlisle. Entertainment, Music, Artisans, and Food.
- On Sunday, December 4th and Sunday, December 11th from Noon to 4 PM, enjoy this once-a-year opportunity to explore the Cameron-Masland Mansion, a mountain stone villa built in 1908 as a summer home. Take a self-guided tour of both floors of the mansion in seasonal decor. All ages are welcome to attend this free event.
- Carlisle Christmas Parade is December 2 at 7 PM. The parade will host approximately 50 parade units of floats, youth groups, marchers, dancers, and the Carlisle High School Marching Band. After the parade there will be a Christmas Carol sing along on the square with the Carlisle Town Band and members of the Resonate Church at 8 PM. On December 2, at 9 PM there will be a free showing of the holiday movie, Elf at the Carlisle Theatre.
- The Downtown Carlisle Association and Bosler Memorial Library invite you to Doughnuts with Santa. Enjoy Saturday morning doughnuts, coffee and juice with Santa at the Bosler Library from 9 AM – 11 AM on Saturday, December 3. No registration necessary. Sponsored by Bimbo Bakery.
- The Carlisle Sertoma Club is having a Breakfast with Santa on December 3 from 8 AM – 10 AM. $3 Donation. Kids 5 & Under eat free. Free crafts with Santa’s helpers. Carlisle Sertoma Clubhouse, 311 E. North Street, Carlisle.
- Meadowbrooke Gourds located at 125 Potato Road Carlisle, is having its Winter Gala on two weekends – December 3 & 4 and December 10 & 11 from 10 am – 3 pm. Make your own Winter gourd. Reservations are needed for this event.
Chambersburg
- The Drying Shed is having its Holiday Open House December 2 & 3 (Fridays 10 – 7 and Saturdays 10 – 4). The Drying Shed, 1587 Newcomer Rd, Chambersburg has a selection of fresh evergreen wreaths, swags, and centerpieces. Also, find a variety of dried wreaths, arrangements, and enamelware.
- 2nd Annual Cocoa Crawl is December 2 from 6 PM – 8 PM. Vote for your favorite downtown Chambersburg merchant’s hot cocoa recipe and be entered to win a $100 gift certificate. Buy a commemorative mug for $5 and receive your ballot. Only 300 mugs available.
- Wilson College will host the annual Handmade for the Holidays event from 10 AM to 6 PM Thursday, Dec. 1 in Lenfest Commons. The event, which will be held on the lower and ground floors, will feature handmade items from local craftspeople.
- Donate a new, unwrapped toy and have your photo taken with Santa – on a Harley Motorcycle! On December 3 from 10 AM – 3 PM at M & S Harley Davidson, Falling Spring Rd, Chambersburg, start a family tradition by having L.A. Cameras take your picture with Santa on his Harley-Davidson.
Greencastle
- Santa’s Stop & Shop will be Saturday, December 3 from 9 AM to 3 PM at the Blue Heron Event Center, 407 S. Washington Street, Greencastle. Cash & Carry gifts to go. Kids get pictures with Santa from noon – 2 PM.
- Green Grove Gardens Christmas Craft Bazaar is Sunday, December 4 from 9 AM – 3 PM. Admission & Parking are FREE. Green Grove Gardens is located at 1032 Buchanan Trail East, Greencastle, PA.
Waynesboro
- Enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of Christmas at Renfrew Museum and Park on Friday December 2 from 5:30-8:30PM, Saturday December 3 2-8pm, and Sunday December 4 1-5 PM. The museum house (Renfrew is a 200 year old restored Pennsylvania German farmstead) will be fully decorated for Christmas, with period interpreters in each room. Admission: $8 for adults $7 seniors $5 ages 7-18 Free ages 6 & under. Free to Members.
Rouzerville
- The Red Run Express, weather permitting, will run from 1 PM to 3 PM on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Red Run Park in Rouzerville. Free miniature train rides for ALL ages. Meet Santa and his elves, Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
- 12th Annual Santa Breakfast at Rouzerville Ruritan Club hosted by the Rouzerville Lions Club on Saturday, December 3, 2016. Breakfast 8 AM – 11AM. Adults $5, Children under 10 free.
McConnellsburg
- The Fulton County Festival of Lights is a “Drive Through” Christmas Light Display located at the Fulton County Fairgrounds in McConnellsburg. The Christmas Light Displays are set up along the roadways throughout the fairgrounds where visitors will drive through the event in their own vehicles. The 2016 Festival of Lights will be held Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3 and the following week Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10. The times are 6 PM – 9:30 PM on all nights. Visitors to the light display enter through the upper fairgrounds gate and pay $4 per vehicle.
Mechanicsburg
- Oakes Museum of Natural History is having a Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 3 from 1- 5PM. There will be a winter craft project, a story time, a winter photo booth, special discounts in the gift shop, and refreshments. Admission is free.
Harrisburg
- The 2016 PA Christmas & Gift Show is being held November 30 – December 4, 2016 at the PA Farm Show Complex. Weis Markets is currently offering discounted tickets for $7 (regular price $8). Children under 12 free with parent. Senior Citizen discounted tickets (62 and over) are $5 (regular price is $6). Tickets after 4 PM are $5.00, and can only be purchased at the door. Wednesday, Nov 30 — 9 AM to 7 PM; Thursday, Dec 1 — 9 AM to 7 PM; Friday, Dec 2 — 9 AM to 7 PM; Saturday, Dec 3 — 9 AM to 7 PM; Sunday, Dec 4 — 10 AM to 5 PM The 2016 PA Christmas Show Exhibitor List is now available HERE.
Ongoing Holiday Attractions
- Tis the season to look for a Christmas Tree! We have rounded up a list of the Christmas Tree farms in our area.
- The Middletown and Hummelstown Railroad operates tourist passenger trains. The Santa Surprise Trains and the Polar Bear Express Trains are going on now. Reservations are required for these trains, but any unsold seats will be available first-come-first-serve.
- Pennsylvania’s oldest operating trolley museum, Rockhill Trolley Museum is now open for the holiday season with the Polar Bear Express and Santa’s Trolley. Come to the Rockhill Trolley Museum for the Polar Bear Express on Fridays and Saturdays through December 10, 2016 from 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM. Cost is adults $8, children $5. Ride aboard a historic trolley car on December 3, 2016 between 10 AM – 4 PM and each child will be personally visited by Santa and receive a gift. Tickets: $8.
- Save on Admission to Dutch Winterland Wonderland! Celebrate the magic of the season at Dutch Winter Wonderland with rides, entertainment, and the Royal Light Show, a spectacular display of thousands of twinkling lights dancing to music. Open select weekends and weekdays in November and December.
- Hersheypark Christmas Candylane continues with select dates until January 1. Admission to Candylane is regularly $19 for ages 3 and up. Children ages 2 and younger are FREE. More than 40 rides are open, including 5 coasters.
- Santa’s Wonderland is at Bass Pro Shops, 3501 Paxton Street, Harrisburg. There are free crafts, games, and activities. Kids get a FREE 4×6 photo with Santa. Please refer to the website for specific times.
- The Trains of Christmas at Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum continues this weekend. Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays 1 – 5 pm. The Trains of Christmas Show features an “O” Scale 3-Rail Christmas layout with steam and diesel trains by Lionel, MTH, Williams, Weaver, and other operating in snow scene on four levels. Railroad artifacts, photos, trains for kids to run, and a gift shop too! Admission: $5 Adults; $.50 Kids (ages 12 & under).
- Whitaker Center’s Holiday Trains & Trees exhibit is open. Beautifully decorated trees, surrounded by themed toy train sets and hands-on activities. Holiday Trains and Trees is included with standard Science Center admission. Find the Holiday Film Series at the Whitaker Center schedule on their website. The Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts is located at 222 Market Street, Harrisburg.
- Benchfield Farms will be offering Carriage rides in downtown Carlisle (weather permitting) on Friday, December 2, After the Parade. Saturday, December 3, 5 PM – 9 PM (with Santa) Carriage rides will cost $5 for Adults, $3 Children Ages 6 -12, children 5 and under are free. Rides will load and unload next to the Old Courthouse.
- ZooLights at the National Zoo in Washington, DC is a FREE holiday event transforming the zoo into a winter wonderland. Zoolights continues through Jan. 1, 2017 (except Dec. 24 and 25) from 5 PM to 9 PM.
- Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md., just kicked off its ICE! attraction, featuring a collection of ice sculptures and 2-story tall ice slides. ICE! with its new theme “Christmas Around the World” is open now through January 1, 2017.
- The Outlet Shoppes at Gettysburg offers FREE Carriage Rides on Friday & Saturday, December 2 & 3 from 5-8PM each night.
