Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend in Shippensburg and Beyond!

Shippensburg

Maplewood is having Create Your Own Fairy Garden classes on Friday January 27 at 4 PM or Saturday January 28 at 10 AM. Bring your own containers.  Old kettles, buckets, baskets, old suitcases or glass bowls are some interesting options.  The class fee is $20 and includes soil & 3 mini plants of your choice.  Sign up at Maplewood Produce and Greenhouse by January 26th or register by calling 717-532-8973.

The Winter Gala (Arts Sale & Membership Drive) will be held at SHAPE Gallery, 19 E. King Street in downtown Shippensburg on Friday, January 27 from 6-8 PM. Live entertainment with Tresa Paul and Tyler Michael Law.  Cash Bar Courtesy of the University Grille.  Hors d’oeuvres Courtesy of SHAPE Members.  Artwork for Sale, Door Prizes,  Sponsorship Opportunities.  There will be make and take crafts for children.  

Ship Swag Soirée takes place Friday, January 27th at 6:30 PM at Kings Court Tanning.  Exclusive shopping event featuring local consultants and small businesses, exclusive sales, wine tasting, and door prizes. Your $10 ticket purchase will include a swag bag, vendor deals, raffle ticket, food, drinks, music, and tips and tricks from each vendor.

Rocky Nails and Fountain of Life (Christian Hip Hop) will be preforming at the Local Gathering on Jan. 27th from 7-10 PM.  Doors open at 6PM.  Admission is free and feel free to bring in food. Support The Local Gathering by donating for your coffees; teas; lattes and such.  The Local Gathering is at 611 Shippensburg Rd. Shippensburg PA. (Newburg Rd Rt. 696 out of Shippensburg; Half Mile past the Ridge Road).

Visit the Thought Lot on Saturday, January 28th from 6-8PM for their opening art reception featuring local talent James Sandrik! 

The Jones Baseball Academy at Shippensburg University will be hosting a baseball winter camp on Sundays.  All camps are taught at Heiges Fieldhouse by SU’s coaching staff and players.  January 29 (Ages 6 – 18):  Hitting Camp, 12-1:30 PM $30;  January 29 (Ages 6 – 18):  Pitcher Catcher Camp, 1:30-3 PM $30  Read more here.

Roxbury

The Blue Mountain Skating Rink is located 1 mile west of Roxbury, PA on Rt 641.  The roller skating rink is open for public skating on Friday evenings from 7-9 PM Admission is only $4 and skate rentals are $1.  Kids 6 and under are FREE and non-skating adults are FREE.

Chambersburg

Chambersburg Volunteer Fireman’s Museum will be open Saturday, January 28.  The museum stores the history of the Chambersburg Fire Department and shows how the department has evolved over the years.  Between 10 AM – 3 PM see apparatus dating back to the 1700’s, motorized equipment from the 20th Century, tools, uniforms, and many photographs. The 15th annual IceFest is scheduled for January 26-29, 2017 in downtown Chambersburg. This winter festival features live ice carving and ice sculptures, food vendors, extended business hours, a Chili Cook off, the Snowfall Ball, and more.  Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from King Street to Washington Street between 9 AM – 6 PM on Saturday.

The 8th Annual Snowfall Ball at Central Presbyterian Church will begin at 6 PM on Friday, Jan. 27 with an hour-long dance workshop by Frank Hancock featuring Swing and the Cha Cha. DJ services are provided by the Electrolinear Entertainment.   The workshop will be followed by an open dance from 7 PM to 10 PM.  Tickets are available at the door and are $10/person.

Fourteen giant ice sculptures will come to life as ice carvers get underway on Thursday and Friday evening during IceFest Pa! The Ice Throne will kick-off the live ice carvings at 5 PM on Thursday after the ribbon cutting ceremony.   Giant sculptures will be carved at random along North and South Main Street (downtown Chambersburg).

Take a FREE ride on the LED lighted double-wide ice slide.  Thursday-Friday: 5pm-8pm;  Saturday: 10am-8pm;  Sunday: noon-4pm;  The two lane slide will be set up at the Old Capitol Theatre Parking Lot (next to Gartenberg Jewelers).

Glass Routes create works of art along North Main Street in the King Street Church Parking lot, across from the Bistro 71 and the Council for the Arts -Chambersburg. Demonstrations will be on and off Friday from 5-8 PM and Saturday from 10 AM – 8 PM.

Chambersburg Ballet Theatre Company will present Flights of Discovery, works by young choreographers at The Capitol Theatre’s Wood Center (2nd Floor) on Jan. 26 & 27 7 PM.  Tickets are available at the door.  $10 Adults/Seniors; 5 ages 6 – 18, 5 and under Free.

Both amateur and professionals vie for cash prizes and the title of the best chili in the region!  Find the event under the big heated tent in the North Square Market Parking Lot on N. Main St. Beer samples are provided by In & Out Beverage. $5 to enter tent.

On Saturday January 28, the 1985 comedy/satire “Clue” will be shown in the large, heated tent on N. Main Street.  Stop by the Capitol Theatre before the movie to pick up your downtown-wide Clue Scavenger Hunt.  There will be concessions for sale, including a signature drink. The free movie will start at 5:30 PM. Winners will be announced at the end of the show. Prizes will be awarded. 

On Sunday, January 29 win prizes by participating in the Scavenger Hunt or Obstacle Course. Test your skills by working your way through the activities set up in the parking lot next to Main Street Deli. Best times win prizes in two age groups every hour (age groups 6 & under and 7-14). Pick up your Scavenger Hunt form and search downtown for the answers among the sculptures. Prizes awarded in each age cateory (9 & under and 10-16).

Princess Party will take place January 29 at 1:00 PM at The Capitol Theatre.  One hour of princess activities and snacks, then a 2:00 PM showing of the movie “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” Snacks and festive treats will also be available. Children are encouraged to come in their favorite princess or character costume and join in the fun with their family and friends.  Admission $5.

Greencastle

Green Grove Gardens is teaming up with Phantom Shadow Entertainment for a Glow Takeover event.  Activities include laser tag, black light mini golf, dancing, games, a black light photo booth, face paint, and more.  The price is $12 for all ages.   There are additional fees for photo booth strips, face paint, food and drinks.  The Glow Takeover event will take place at Green Grove Gardens inside the Grand Barn at 1032 Buchanan Trail East, Greencastle.  DATES:   January 27-29   Fridays 6PM – 12AM  Saturdays 4PM – 12AM  Sundays 4PM – 10PM.  You may buy tickets in advance online ($1.65 additional fee) or at the door.

Harrisburg

The 2017 Motor Trend International Auto Show pulls into the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg, PA on January 26 through January 29.  The event showcases the latest cars, trucks and crossovers.  The Powersports Hall returns allowing attendees to get hands on with boats, personal watercraft, motorcycles, ATVs and more.  Kids Entertainment Area Saturday & Sunday.  Thursday, January 26: 1 PM – 9 PM; Friday & Saturday, January 27 & 28: 10 AM – 9 PM;  Sunday, January 29: 10 AM – 5 PM  for ticket info go HERE.
