April is Kite Month, Get Outside and Celebrate
April is National Kite Month. The following family-friendly events celebrate Kite Month and offer a way to enjoy the beginning of Spring.
Saturday, April 1 MONT ALTO
Kite Tails in the Park will be held at the Mont Alto Recreation Area on Saturday, April 1. 10AM Workshop to Decorate Kites. 11AM Kites in the air. Free Kite kit to each child ages pre-school through High School (with parent/adult). Come decorate, assemble and fly your own kites at the pavilion and sports fields at the Mont Alto Park. The Rain date is April 29th.
Saturday, April 1 WASHINGTON D.C.
If you plan to spend a day taking in the sights and smells of the National Cherry Blossom Festival you may wish to visit the Blossom Kite Festival. The skies over the National Mall will be full of colorful kites as the annual event kicks off on April 1, at 10AM on the lawn by the Washington Monument. Bring your own kites or children can make a kite at an activity station (while supplies last) to fly on the Public Field. The Rain Date is Sunday, April 2.
Saturday, April 8 CHAMBERSBURG
Kitefest is a free family event sponsored by the Chambersburg Hispanic American Center on Saturday, April 8, 2017. Come fly a kite from 1PM – 5PM at Nitterhouse Memorial Park. Free kite to the first 25 families needing one. Food for sale at the Concession Stand.
Saturday, April 15 WAYNESBORO
All ages are welcome to enjoy a Spring Fun Fly with expert kite flying help from Kite Masters—Sam Adams and George Adams—in the meadow behind the museum house at Renfrew Park. The event is open to all ages and there is no fee for flying. Participants should bring their own kites. A Build a Kite workshop is scheduled. There is a $1 donation to cover materials.
Friday – Sunday, April 28 – 30 OCEAN CITY, MD
The Maryland International Kite Exposition will feature three fun filled days of kite flying on the beautiful beaches of Ocean City, Maryland. Throughout the festival, there will be exhibitions and demonstrations including stunt and power kite lessons, free children’s games and activities, and more! The festival will showcase some of the best kite flyers from around the world. Kites of all shapes and sizes will be on display including some massive character and theme based kites.
Sunday, May 21 CAMP HILL
Come out and watch the Keystone Kiters fly their kites and make one yourself for free at the Camp Hill Kite Festival. This year’s festival takes place Sunday, May 21 from Noon – 4PM. Food will be available for purchase. The festival is held at Fiala Field (Soccer Fields along Rt. 581 & behind the Methodist Church).
