Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend!
Shippensburg
The 2017 Furry Fun Days doggie carnival is being held at Shippensburg Township Park on June 3 and 4 from 9AM – 4PM. Vendors, games, food, canine dock diving, lure coursing, and agility. The closing event will be the Blessing of the Dogs at 3:45PM on Sunday, June 4. Entry to this event is a $5 donation per car which goes to the attending shelters and rescues.
On Saturday June 3 from 6-8PM, Studio Z Cardio Fitness Club will be sponsoring a Zumbathon at Shippensburg Township Park. You are invited to come dance or enjoy an evening at the park and check out all the great raffle prizes! This Zumbathon ($15 payable at the park) will be a fundraiser for Liam Kepner.
The Cumberland Valley Hitman Organization is a local semi-pro football team. Join the CV Hitmen at Veterans Stadium on June 3, 7PM. Youth and Special Education Appreciation Night. FREE admission.
Maplewood Produce & Greenhouse, 8564 Olde Scotland Road will be having its Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 3 from 8AM – 4PM! 20% off ALL planters and hanging baskets. FREE Ice Cream with fresh Strawberries.
The Sturgis Showhouse is located in the historic district of Shippensburg at 20 West King Street. It was the boyhood home of General Samuel Davis Sturgis, a Union General in the Civil War. The home will be open to the public through June 11 as a fundraiser for the Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc.
The Shippensburg Garden Tour is scheduled for June 4 from 1PM until 6PM. Free refreshments and a plant sale are included in the annual event. The 6 Garden Tour Locations: 412 Sunset Lane; 100 Park Place; 131 Milky Way; 304 Hollar Ave; 412 Scott Drive; 14 Mainsville Road. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. You may pay at any of the 6 Garden sites.
Beyond Shippensburg
Gardners: Daniel Tiger is coming to Pine Grove Furnace State Park on June 3 from 9AM – 11AM. WITF with support from community agencies and sponsors is inviting families to the free Saturday morning event, “Let’s Go with Daniel Tiger.” This is a FREE, family event designed for ages 3–8. RSVP is requested for planning purposes.
Newburg: The 7th Annual P.A.P.’s Day In The Park is at Hopewell Township Park, 218 Shippensburg Road, Newburg on June 3rd, 10AM-4PM. This year’s main attraction will be a car show including 5 categories – Stock, Modified, Imports, Trucks, and Motorcycles! Food, Craft vendors, a DJ and a bouncy castle for the kids! St Thomas: Mt Parnell Lions host their 66th Annual Ox Roast June 2 & 3 at St. Thomas American Legion Grounds. Food Stand opens at Noon. Games, Bounce Houses, Entertainment 6PM each evening.
Newville: The Newville First Church of God is hosting its annual Newville Rural Festival on Saturday, June 3, 9AM – 3PM. Free Admission and Free Parking. The festival features over 50 craftsmen/exhibitors with antique tractors, classic & antique cars, motorcycles, hit & miss engines, spinning wheels, and more! Food. Live musical ministry all day. Children’s Garden activities, Carnival games, Barrel train ride, Tillie the Clown and more!
Marion: The second Saturday of the 2017 Marion Festivals is June 3. Free Entertainment with 3 Shows each night (6:15PM; 7:30PM; 9PM). Food Games, Rides. Kitchen opens at 4:30PM. Free parking.
Chambersburg: Children’s Expo is happening Friday, June 2 & Saturday, June 3 at the Chambersburg Mall! This special event will feature community programs, local businesses, games, activities, sales vendors, a Talent Show and Fashion Show.
Chambersburg: Chefs Walk is June 3, from 4-7PM along Alexander Avenue in Chambersburg. Chefs Walk is a food and music crawl with local chefs, beer and wine tastings, a silent auction, and over 50 local musicians performing along Alexander Ave. Tickets are $60 and can be purchased at the event. All proceeds benefit the Cumberland Valley School of Music, a local nonprofit organization.
Carlisle: The entire family will enjoy an all-Ford event at the Carlisle Fairgrounds this weekend. Ford, Mercury and Lincoln fans will have a showcase of over 3,000 vehicles to check out on the National Parts Depot showfield. During this event, you will enjoy great indoor displays of concepts, customs and historically-significant cars and trucks; test drives by Ford Motor Company, a burnout competition, activities for the kids, industry guests, giveaways, autocross for all skill levels and club gatherings.
Carlisle: Penn State Master Gardeners in Cumberland County are hosting Family Garden Day on Saturday, June 3, 2017, between 10AM and 1PM at the Penn State Extension office, 310 Allen Road. Birds of a Feather” is the theme of this year’s family-friendly event. There is no pre-registration or fee required for Family Garden Day activities, so families can stop by anytime during the event to participate in some or all of the free activities.
Boiling Springs: The Foundry Day Crafts Festival is an annual juried arts and crafts festival held the first Saturday of June in Boiling Springs and features the original works of 100 fine artists and craftsmen. Event also includes music, entertainment, food and more. Admission is free. Rain or shine. Free parking and shuttles from the high school parking lot.
Ongoing Summer Events
North Square Farmers Market is open from 8AM – Noon on Saturday mornings until October 21. You will find local produce, cheeses, fresh-cut flowers, baked goods, handmade soaps and body products, locally roasted coffee and specialty foods. Food vendors will have breakfast and lunch items available. Kids aged 3 -12 can sign up for POP (Power Of Produce) Club! POP Members receive $2 in tokens per market visit to be used on fresh fruits and vegetables. Look for the market tents behind King Street Church in Chambersburg!
The miniature train at Norlo Park is FREE to ride on Saturdays from 1PM to 4PM. It is open to riders of all ages. Last Train boards at 3:50PM. Donations are accepted.
FREE Concerts at Chambersburg Memorial Park Kiwanis Band Shell continue all Summer long. View the dates HERE.
From May 26 – Jun 11, Driving Miss Daisy will be at Totem Pole Playhouse. Set in mid-20th-century Atlanta, the show tells the story of an elderly Jewish woman and her chauffeur. For ticket information visit here.
Showing Friday-Sunday, June 2nd-4th at Cumberland Drive-In is the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. Gates open at 7PM. First feature begins at approximately 8:45PM.
