Shippensburg
Smith’s Chicken BBQ & bake sale to benefit the Shippensburg Public Library will take place Friday May 12, 4PM – 6:30PM. Tickets are $12 and available at the Library or the Book Nook. Pick up is at Tractor Supply in Shippensburg.
On May 12, Mongul MOPS (Mothers of PreSchoolers) is sponsoring a Mother Daughter Tea. Enjoy several courses of delicious tea party foods along with a variety of teas for both children and adults alike. For more information, view the Facebook event HERE.
The Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter will hold their sixth annual “Hike for the Homeless Pets” from 9AM to noon, Saturday, May 13, beginning at the First Assembly of God Church, 420 Baltimore Road. The hike will take participants through the town of Shippensburg. Registration begins at 9AM, with the hike starting at 10AM, rain or shine. Participants are asked to get sponsors for the hike. Canine contests will start at approximately 11:30AM.
Grace B. Luhrs School Plant Sale will be held this week, May 11-13, 8:30AM to 4:30PM (Thurs./Fri) 8:30AM – 1:30PM (Sat.) A wide variety of annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables, planters, etc will be available.
Shippensburg Area Girl Scouts are sponsoring their 2nd annual 5K run/walk along the Cumberland Valley rails to trails to benefit Better Day Animal Shelter on May 13th. Registration fee is a donation to Better Day Animal Shelter. View the flyer in the Facebook event here.

Newville/Carlisle
Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is open Friday, Saturday, AND Sunday this week! Showing May 12–May 14 will be “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” (PG-13) and “Beauty and the Beast” (PG). Gates open at 7PM. First feature begins at approximately 8:15PM.
UPDATE: The Touch-A-Truck / Taking it to the Streets event is cancelled today due to the weather! Touch-A-Truck is scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Newville Lions Club Fairgrounds. The FREE event is organized by the Big Spring Kiwanis Club in cooperation with the Newville Lions Club and United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County. Kids of all ages are invited to see over 30 trucks including tractors and emergency vehicles! Come and climb, run around, sit in, and HONK horns (10AM – 11AM horn-free hour for children sensitive to noise). Every child will also receive a FREE book. Pancake Breakfast 8AM – 10AM; Eye Screening 9AM – 2PM; Touch -A-Truck 10AM – 2PM.
The Cumberland Valley Tractor Pullers Association will hold a tractor pull on May 13, 6:30PM. Admission is $10 for adults with children under 12 free. Concession Stand available.
Join the Friends of Kings Gap for a Plant Sale on Saturday, May 13, from 10AM to 4PM and Sunday, May 14 from Noon to 4PM. Sale includes native plants (perennials, fern, shrubs and trees). Edible trees, shrubs and perennials will also be available. Spring Garden Days will feature garden tours, programs on butterfly gardening and bee basics, free kids activities and more. A food stand will be available.
Chambersburg
The Chambersburg Community Theatre presents “Anne of Green Gables” adapted by R. N. Sandberg from the novel by L. M. Montgomery. Performances will be at 7PM on May 12, 13, 19 and 20 and at 2PM on May 14 and 21. For ticket information visit here.
The Cumberland Valley Breast Care Alliance (CVBCA) is pleased to announce their 21th Annual 5k Walk/Run, May 13, from 8:30AM until Noon. The event will take place on Rhodes Drive between the Tower at Falling Spring and the Coyle Free Library. On-site registration begins at 8:30AM. The Opening Ceremony will begin at 9:30AM with prayer and a tribute to the Breast Cancer Warriors and Survivors and a moment of Remembrance for those who have died. Read more HERE.
Summit Health and the 11/30 Network of Franklin County on Saturday, May 13, will host the fourth annual Splash Your Sole 5k at Norlo Park, 3050 Lincoln Way East. Held rain or shine, participants will weave through Norlo Park, getting covered in a rainbow of colors at four stations spaced throughout the course. The fun, untimed run will have heats at 8 and 9AM. Participants can preregister for the 5k online or register in person the day of the event.
Greencastle
The Chambersburg Area Kennel Club will be having their 2 day AKC All-Breed Dog Show and Obedience/ Rally Trials on May 12 and 13 at the American Legion Picnic Grounds, 4475 Williamson Road, Greencastle, PA. Show hours are from 7AM to 6PM; judging starts at 9AM daily. Free admission.
Mercersburg
Mercersburg Springfest will be Saturday, May 13, from 9AM to 3PM. The event will feature a variety of crafters, artisans, jewelers, food vendors, civic groups and local businesses. A “Kids Korner” will be on the Mercersburg Elementary School campus, and will feature a bounce house, rock-climbing wall, pony rides and a firetruck display.
Harrisburg/Hershey
Moms are admitted free to The Hershey Story and Hershey Gardens on Mother’s Day. Explore the “Chocolate Workers Wanted” exhibit as part of the museum experience from 9AM-5PM May 14 at The Hershey Story. A fee is charged for Chocolate Labs. Hershey Gardens is open from 9AM-5PM and offers 11 themed gardens, including the Children’s Garden, and the indoor Butterfly Atrium. Regular admission fees apply to additional guests.
Moms receive free admission to the Antique Automobile Club of America museum and the first 100 moms receive a complimentary rose from 9AM-5PM on May 14 at the Museum, 161 Museum Drive South Hanover Twp. Admission: Free for moms, but for the rest of the family: $12 adults; $11 ages 61 and older; $9 ages 4-12.
Hagerstown, MD
On May 13th, EAA Chapter 36 is hosting a Fly-in, Drive-in Breakfast located at Hagerstown Regional Airport Firehouse next to main terminal. Free Young Eagle airplane rides for kids ages 8-17 from 9AM – Noon. Hagerstown Aviation Museum will be on hand with their Fairchild C-82 and C-119 cargo planes.
Washington D.C.
The European Union Embassies and the EU Delegation to the United States will open their doors to the public for their annual EU Embassies’ Open House on May 13, 2017. This day will include family fun, food, culture and more. Each of the 28 embassies will open their doors to the public from 10AM until 4PM, offering a rare look inside the buildings.
