Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend in & beyond Shippensburg!

PA Fish for FREE day is July 4!  Fish for Free Days allow residents and non-residents to legally fish on Pennsylvania waterways on the designated days with no fishing license required (Trout/Salmon and Lake Erie permits are also NOT required).

Shippensburg

On June 30, the Local Gathering is hosting An Evening with Leslie McKee.  Help celebrate Leslie’s new album “Another Mile.”    Doors open at 6PM; Event 7PM- 10PM.  FREE admission.

Please join in the Drew Michael Taylor Foundation’s Family Fun Night and Splash Party on Friday June 30 at Shippensburg Memorial Park & Pool from 6-9PM. $10 wristband for unlimited inflatable attractions & swimming. All proceeds benefit programs that help local grieving families.

On Friday June 30th and Saturday July 1, the Shippensburg Fairgrounds will be filled with action as the next two Truck & Tractor Pulls (7PM) take place.  Bring your lawn chairs.  Admission: $10; Children (5-11)  $5.

Come out and visit Shippensburg’s open air market at 180 Airport Road on Monday, July 3 from 3PM-7PM.

Beyond Shippensburg

The 2017 Gettysburg Fire Department Carnival is going on now through Saturday, July 1 at the Gettysburg Rec Park. Fireworks Friday evening at 11PM!  Rides by Pennwood Shows.  $20 special – pay one price and ride all night.  All nights except Friday.

On July 1 – 3 the 154th Gettysburg Anniversary Civil War Battle Re-enactment will be held at 965 Pumping Station Road, Gettysburg.  Featuring battle re-enactments such as Pickett’s Charge, living history, period music, sutlers, encampments and more.

The Shippensburg Swing Band will perform July 2, 4PM-6PM on the lawn across from the concession stand at Colonel Denning State Park. This is a free event and is fun for everyone.

Carlisle Fire & Rescue Services will hold their annual carnival through July 1. Food will be served nightly beginning at 5PM, rides will start at 6:30PM, and the nightly entertainment will begin at 7PM.

The Red Run Express will be operating on July 4th from 1PM – 4PM.  Rides on this miniature train located at Red Run Park in Rouzerville are FREE.

Fireworks Locations

Carlisle – July 2.  Star Burst Over Carlisle Fireworks Show at the Carlisle Fairgrounds will be on Sunday, July 2nd at 9:30PM funded through private donations collected by the Mayor of Carlisle, Tim Scott. The show is expected to last 18 minutes, and will be launched from one of the highest points at the Carlisle Fairgrounds.  The rain date is July 3rd, 2017.

Shippensburg – July 4.  Shippensburg Community Parks and Recreation Authority will be hosting the annual 4th of July Celebration at Shippensburg Memorial Park.  The Memorial Park Pool will be open to the public with free admission.  The pool will open at 11AM and close at 7PM.  The Shippensburg Band entertains beginning at 8PM with an Independence Day Concert.   Fireworks will start after dark.

Chambersburg – July 4.  The annual 4th of July Fireworks and Events will be held July 4th.  Should the fireworks be rained out, they will be launched on the following Saturday. 

Waynesboro – July 4. The Waynesboro Summer Jubilee is a patriotic festival held each summer to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday. The celebration features a full day of free entertainment, patriotic exhibits and exciting activities for children and adults of all ages.  The day begins with a 1 Mile Kid’s Fun Run & 5K followed by a parade in the morning. The event offers live entertainment, food, drink, and craft vendors throughout the day, and concludes with the annual fireworks display at dusk.  This year’s event will be held Tuesday, July 4th, 2017 in the area across from the Waynesboro Hospital.

Gettysburg – July 4.  Celebrate the 4th of July in Gettysburg with The Willys, a patriotic pops concert and fireworks show.  6PM – Venue opens; food & beverage vendors open; 6:30PM-8PM – Opening concert by The Willys; 8:30PM-9:30PM – Gala Pops Orchestra.  Fireworks will be launched at approximately 9:30PM as the concert concludes from the southern end of the Gettysburg College campus. For more information visit www.destinationgettysburg.com

Harrisburg – July 4.  Fireworks after the Harrisburg Senators game on July 4th.  Lee Greenwood will perform the National Anthem pre-game & post-game he will perform Where the Stars and Stripes and Eagle Fly and his hit God Bless the USA before the biggest fireworks show of the year.  The game will end at approximately 9PM. The City of Harrisburg – July 4.  Independence Day Food Truck Festival and Fireworks Show on Riverfront Park is a one-day family friendly free event featuring food trucks, live music, kids activities, a performance by the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra.  Fireworks will be set off directly after the Harrisburg Senators’ fireworks display.

Ongoing Summer Events

The Bass Pro Shops Family Summer Camp features FREE fun games for kids, activities and workshops.  BB Range, Hands-On Archery, Casting Buckets, Yard Games.  Family Summer Camp runs Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays June 24-July 23 from Noon-5PM.  Crafts are scheduled Noon-2PM.

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is open Friday through Sunday (Double Feature) and Monday (Triple Feature) this weekend!  June 30th-July 2nd – Gates open at 7PM. First feature begins at approximately 9:15PM.  Despicable Me 3 & Transformers: The Last Knight  July 3rd – Gates open at 6:30PM.  First feature begins at approximately 9:15PM.  Despicable Me 3, Wonder Woman, Transformers: The Last Knight.

RC Theaters (Carlisle Commons) is offering $1 summer kids movies!  All movies start at 10AM and are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  On July 4 & 5:  The Secret Life of Pets.

North Square Farmers Market is open from 8AM – Noon on Saturday mornings until October 21.  You will find local produce, cheeses, fresh-cut flowers, baked goods, handmade soaps and body products, locally roasted coffee and specialty foods like gourmet popcorn.  Kids aged 3 -12 can sign up for POP (Power Of Produce) Club! POP Members receive $2 in tokens per market visit to be used on fresh fruits and vegetables. Membership in POP Club is free.  Look for the market tents behind King Street Church!

Train rides at Norlo Park will be continue on Saturday, July 1.  The miniature train, complete with a cattle car and caboose, is FREE to ride on Saturdays from 1PM – 4PM!  It is open to riders of all ages.  Last Train boards at 3:50PM.  Donations are accepted.
