SHIPPENSBURG

Greyhound Community Night will be Friday, August 18th (5-8PM) at Veteran’s Stadium, Memorial Park. Come celebrate the upcoming Greyhound Athletic season. Food, Games, Band, Cheerleaders and Fall sports teams. You can also get your season tickets for football or season passes for all the Greyhound sports. Punch passes will be available for home Greyhound games as well. Funnel Cakes, baked goods, walking tacos, pulled pork, ice cream, kettle corn and the concession stand will also be open. 50/50 tickets and football cash raffle tickets will also be available.

The Local Gathering presents An Evening of Drama with Torn Curtain from Shalom Christian Academy on August 18th, 7-10PM.  An evening with various skits, human videos and improvs.  Barista bar is open.  Free Admission. 

The Shippensburg University football team holds an annual Media Day/Fan Gathering on Saturday, August 19 at Noon.

2nd Annual Community Picnic is Saturday, August 19.  The Picnic will be held at Shippensburg Memorial Park, Lions Club Pavilion from 5PM – 7PM.  Contact the Shippensburg Historical Society (717) 532-6727 for more information.  Tickets (includes meal) $5 Members; $7 Non-Members.

There will be a Back to School Splash Party at the Shippensburg Memorial Park Pool on Saturday, Aug 19 from 7PM-10PM. $2 Admission.

A Music/Bike Fest will be held August 19, 11AM – 5PM at 304 Britton Road.  Live music from: Scarlett, My Last Downfall, Madison Rising, and Calisus.  Tickets: $20.  Ride starting at 9AM at 33 W Orange St.  Food & Drinks,  Small Games of Chance, Raffles.  Rain or Shine.  This is a fundraiser for Cumberland Valley Hose Fire Company to purchase new ladder truck.

CHAMBERSBURG/McCONNELLSBURG

The Franklin County Truck Convoy will be leaving Twin Bridges Show Grounds, 1501 Crider’s Church Road, Chambersburg at approximately 10:30AM on Saturday, August 19th. The convoy will travel on Twin Bridge Road to Rt. 30 East thru the Borough of Chambersburg to Rt. 997 continuing to Rt. 11 South, back thru the Borough of Chambersburg to Rt. 30 West, turning right onto Crottlestown Road and returning to Twin Bridges Show Grounds. This is a benefit for Make-A-Wish.

Come out and enjoy the taste of summer at Tomato Tasting Day. Hot pepper table plus salsa & tomato contests.  This free family-friendly event is scheduled for Saturday, August 19 from 9AM to Noon at the Agricultural Heritage Center, 181 Franklin Farm Lane.  Rain or shine event.

The Peach Festival at Fort Loudon Community Grounds, 30 and Hawbaker Drive, will be held August 19, 8AM – 2PM. Celebrate the peach industry in Franklin County with all things peaches – peach pies, cobbler, cream puffs, peach sundaes, and bags of peaches for sale. There will be Entertainment, Children’s activities, Crafts & Home based Businesses and more.

North Square Farmers Market, 50 N. Main Street, will be held Saturday, August 19 from 8AM to NoonChildren ages 3 -12 can sign up for POP (Power of Produce) Club.  Members receive $2 in tokens per market visit to be used on produce or vegetable plant.

A Miniature Train rides the rails at Norlo Park, 3050 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville on Saturdays. It is open to riders of all ages. The train, complete with a cattle car and caboose, is FREE to ride from 1PM to 4PM throughout Summer & Fall.

Fulton County Fair continues thru August 19th.  Fulton County Fairgrounds are located at 888 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg.  The annual county fair features farm exhibits, 4-H/FFA livestock, food, live entertainment, games, pulls, derbies, races, fireworks, and more.

WAYNESBORO

Downtown Waynesboro will have a full weekend of Harry Potter activities on August 18th and 19th.   The event will feature activities for all ages including Celtic music, a paint party, chili cauldron specials, magical high tea, a costume contest, and a showing of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” and “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” at the Waynesboro Theatre. 

The Rouzerfest Car & Truck Show at Red Run Park is August 19th.  Rouzerfest includes family friendly events such as free pony rides, hot dogs, moon bounce, face painting.  Craft & Vendors. 

The Red Run Express will be operating from 10AM – 4PM on August 19th.  Stop in to take a tour of the Station and a ride on the miniature train! 

NEWVILLE

On Friday, August 18 from 6PM to 8PM, Movement Outreach and the Big Spring Heights Church of God will host a “BACK TO SCHOOL BASH” at the Newville Community Park. There will be free back to school supplies, haircuts, food and refreshments and music. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at Movement Outreach, 2 Chestnut Street.

Mifflin Fireman’s Fair is Friday & Saturday, August 18 & 19, 4PM – 10PM.  Country Food, Entertainment, Games. 

GETTYSBURG/HANOVER

The weekend, August 17-20, is the Semiannual Gettysburg Fall Bluegrass Festival at the Granite Hill Camping Resort.  Four days of music on two stages, informative workshops, All-Star jam, Bluegrass Academy for kids, food, merchandise and arts & crafts vendors. Visit gettysburgbluegrass.com for details on schedule, ticketing, and FAQ’s.

MANHEIM

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is held on the grounds of the Mount Hope Estate.  With over 90 stage shows daily, 22 Royal Kitchens and scores of artisan merchants with handcrafted wares, the Renaissance Faire invites guests to immerse themselves in the 35-acre village and experience the fantasy.  Each weekend will showcase a unique theme:  August 19 & 20 Celtic Weekend

MARYLAND

The Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week for 2017 continues through Saturday, August 19. That means qualifying apparel and footwear $100 or less, per item, are exempt from the 6 percent state sales tax. Accessory items are not included.  For more information, visit marylandtaxes.com.

EAA Chapter 36 is hosting a Fly-in, Drive-in Breakfast located at Hagerstown Regional Airport Firehouse next to main terminal. Free airplane rides for kids ages 8-17 from 9AM – Noon.  Hagerstown Aviation Museum will be on hand to show off their Fairchild C-82 and C-119 cargo planes.  All you can eat Breakfast, 8-11AM; Adults $7, Children 6-12 $4, Under 6 FREE.  Lunch 11AM to 1PM. Hot dogs, Hamburgers, French Fries: A la carte.  Free parking for at the main terminal, Aircraft parking on apron next to Firehouse.  Parent/legal guardian must be present for Young Eagle flights. All activities are weather permitting.
