Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend!
SHIPPENSBURG/NEWBURG
The Shippensburg Historical Society is offering a tour of the Stewart House to see how the family lived, with a haunted twist. The event is Friday, October 20 with tours beginning at 8PM. Admission ($3 for members and $5 for non members) includes haunted guided tour and refreshments. After the Haunted History Tour, stick around for a spooky Movie Night.
There will be an autumn trail walk at Dykeman Park on Saturday October 21 at 9AM to approximately 11AM. Meet at the gazebo by the duck pond. No registration is required. The walk will be the Dykeman Upland Trail (approximately 1 mile).
Life Community Church at 2249 Roxbury Rd will be hosting their annual Family Fall Fest on Saturday October 21 from 10AM – 2PM. Fun, Food and Games. This is a free event.
Pumpkin Patch Playtime will be held October 21 (1PM – 4PM) at The Local Gathering. Pumpkin Painting; Bobbing for Apples; Pumpkin Bowling; Pin the Stem on the Pumpkin and Fishing for Candy. Ticket prices $5/child or $20/immediate family.
There will be a Holiday Bazaar in the Family Life Center at the Shippensburg Church of the Brethren, 253 East Garfield Street on Saturday October 21 from 8AM – 2PM. Baked Goods, Lunch, Fall & Holiday Crafts, Vendors, and Canned Goods.
The Annual Shippensburg Halloween parade will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 7PM. The rain date is Tuesday, October 24.
A Music Benefit event to raise money for Bill Wolfe’s family and honor his memory will be held Saturday October 21 at the Thought Lot. The event will include live music, food, fellowship, and inflatables provided by Phantom Shadow Entertainment. The all-ages show will have tickets available at the door. Doors open at 10:30AM, and the event closes at 11PM. Admission includes the concert, a meal and use of inflatables: $20, ages 13 and up; $10, ages 6 to 12; $5, ages 3 to 5; free, ages 2 and under.
NEWVILLE/CARLISLE
Huntsdale State Fish Hatchery will have an Open House on Sunday from 1PM-4PM. A variety of hands-on activities, including casting and fish-print art opportunities, a spawning demonstration, tours of the Visitor’s Center, “Touch-A-Truck” displays, and more. Light refreshments will be provided while available.
Pine Grove Furnace State Park’s 9th annual Fall Furnace Fest will be held on Saturday, October 21, 11AM – 7PM and Sunday, October 22 11AM – 4PM. There is no charge to enter the Park or the Festival. Most activities are free. The 2017 Fall Furnace Festival features pumpkin carving/painting, hay rides, craft & food vendors, live music, demonstrations and nature displays.
The Legend of the Hairy Hand is a Fall Furnace Fest tradition. Saturday evening, October 21 at 7PM at Fuller Lake beach, the legend will be told and the raft of glowing pumpkins will be set afloat on the lake to keep the hairy hand away. Participants can come early to carve a pumpkin and dip a candle to add to the raft. Pine Grove Furnace State Park is located at 1100 Pine Grove Road, Gardners. The rain or shine event is held in the Furnace Stack and Fuller Lake Day Use Areas.
CHAMBERSBURG
AppleFest is a free family event in downtown Chambersburg on October 21 from 9AM – 4PM. AppleFest features craft and art vendors, live music, as well as food throughout the square. This event, run by the Downtown Business Council of Chambersburg, is fun for the whole family and has kids’ activities and rides!
On Saturday, October 21 from 10AM – 4PM is the Harvest Day event at Cowans Gap State Park, 6235 Aughwick Rd. The Harvest Day Festival at Cowans Gap State Park features fall foliage, pumpkin carving/painting, environmental programming, apple cider pressing, seed-roasting, hayrides, demonstrations, live music, craft vendors and more. Donations are appreciated, however the event is free.
Country Creek Produce Farm is home to The Oregon Trail corn maze and more family friendly Fall fun. The farm’s attractions include the corn maze, jump pad, peddle track, quad mountain slides, u-pick pumpkins, hayrides, animals, pumpkin cannon, and more. Night Maze Flashlight Nights will be happening Friday and Saturday Oct 20-21 weather permitting.
A Miniature Train rides the rails at Norlo Park, 3050 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville on Saturdays. It is open to riders of all ages. The train, complete with a cattle car and caboose, is FREE to ride on Saturdays weather permitting from 1PM to 4PM throughout Fall.
The 44th Annual Fulton Fall Folk Festival is a 3 day countywide event with a variety of vendors and activities.
MERCERSBURG
Stoner’s Dairy Farm and Corn Maze offers weekend Fall activities. Normal weekend offerings include sea themed corn maze, hayride, petting zoo, pedal carts, corn cannon, scarecrow factory, food and more. Friday night (Oct.20) is a Haunted Maze Night – $7 per person – from 7PM – 10PM.
WAYNESBORO
Pumpkin Fest at Renfrew Museum and Park, Waynesboro is October 21, 11AM – 4PM. There will be pumpkin painting/carving, barrel train ride, face painting, scarecrow stuffing, and more! Pumpkins available. Live music. Admission (includes soup, bread, cider) is $8 adults, $4 children 4 to 12, free for children under 4.
GETTYSBURG
The second annual Civil War Camp Carnival at the Historic Farnsworth House Inn will be held on Saturday October 21 from Noon-3PM. Free admission! Petting zoo (Critter Connections), Face-painting, Carriage rides from Gettysburg Carriage Company, Ghost stories, Paranormal investigation & Equipment Display, Licensed battlefield guide lecture, Pet the horses from Horse Tours of Gettysburg, Civil War uniform and weapons display, Make your own Civil War bullet, Mini house tour, Pictures with a Civil War soldier, Civil War music, Civil War blacksmith display, horseshoes, and much more!
HERSHEY
Visit Hersheypark in the Dark three weekends in 2017 – October 13-15, 20-22 & 27-29. Giant is selling discounted tickets!
2017 Hershey Garden’s Pumpkin Glow – October 20 & 21 and October 27 & 28, 6PM – 8:30PM. During Hershey Garden’s Pumpkin Glow, the gardens pathways will be lined with more than 150 carved, illuminated and themed pumpkins. Kids ages 12 and younger are invited to bring a flashlight and come in costume while trick-or-treating at eight candy stops throughout the Gardens.
LANCASTER
Happy Hauntings, Dutch Wonderland Family Amusement Park, 2249 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster will feature 30 themed non scary rides, special entertainment, and the Trick-or-Treat Trail – a safe, interactive trick-or-treating experience. Saturday (2-9PM) and Sunday (2-8PM).
The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is held on the grounds of the Mount Hope Estate. With over 90 stage shows daily, 22 Royal Kitchens and scores of artisan merchants with handcrafted wares, the Renaissance Faire invites guests to immerse themselves in the 35-acre village and experience the fantasy.
