Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend in & beyond Shippensburg!
IN SHIPPENSBURG
The annual Shippensburg Benefit Auction (Cumberland Valley Produce Auction) will be held Saturday, June 23 to support the Clinic for Special Children’s work. Breakfast is at 7AM, auctions start at 8:30AM. Handmade quilts, handcrafted furniture, wooden crafts, sporting goods, handmade toys and garden plants will be available for buyers. A variety of food will be featured including chicken barbecue, freshly made pies, donuts, whoopie pies, ice cream and more!
Long’s Family Catering & Donuts will be in Shippensburg at the West End Office Complex on Saturday, June 23 from 8AM – Noon.
A Civil War Walking Tour & Campfire will be held Saturday, June 23. The walking tour will start at the historical society at 7:15PM with the campfire starting around 8PM. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.
Black Panther will be shown outside at Shippensburg Memorial Park on Saturday, June 23 at 9:10PM. Admission is FREE. Movie sponsored by the Robert T. Henry pharmacy. Gates open at 8:30PM.
Katie’s Place Thrift Shop is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week! 8AM to Noon. The half price sale continues.
BEYOND SHIPPENSBURG

The annual Mont Alto Volunteer Firemen’s Carnival is going on now through June 23. For nine nights, enjoy Rides by Snyders Amusements, Entertainment, Bingo, Games and Food at the Mont Alto Fire Company’s Events Complex, off of Route 997. Kitchen opens at 5:30PM every night. Fireworks will be held on Friday, June 22 (rain date June 23).
Jim’s Farmers Market (Grant Street, Chambersburg) is having a Customer Appreciation weekend. On Friday June 22 enjoy refreshments, door prizes, and marketwide specials. Saturday, June 23 there will be outside activities, candy scramble, mini horse and buggy rides, cotton candy, funnel cakes, pretzel dogs, also pulled pork & sausage link sandwiches.
South Newton Township Volunteer Fire Co. annual Fireman’s Fair is June 21-23. Come out for homemade food, live bands, fireworks after dark on Friday (rain date is Saturday).
The Chevrolet Nationals will be held June 22-24 at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. Home to a diverse group of General Motors vehicles, from vintage muscle to the modern 6th Generation Camaro.
The Mid-Atlantic Reptile Expo on June 23, 9AM – 4PM at the Carlisle Expo Center is a sales & educational event geared toward reptile and amphibian enthusiasts (snakes, lizards, frogs, spiders and more). Entrance tickets are $6 for all guests 13 years of age and older, guests 12 and under are free. Tickets are available at the door.
The final Saturday of the Marion Festivals will be held on June 23. Free Entertainment with 3 Shows each night (6:15 PM; 7:30PM; 9PM). Food, Games, Rides. Kitchen opens at 4:30PM. Free parking.
Civil War Days in Harrisburg is a community-wide series of events on June 22 – 24 aimed to present and preserve Harrisburg’s Civil War history and heritage.
The National Civil War Museum is proud to provide a Community Free Day on June 23, 9AM – 4PM with activities and entertainment for the community, completely free of charge to visitors on this day in conjunction with Civil War Days in Harrisburg. Museum guests will enjoy special presentations, children’s activities and a living history encampment.
On June 23 & 24, Old Bedford Village is having a Wild West Weekend! Go back to the days of the Old West with gunfights, bank raids and more. 9AM-5PM. Adult Admission $10; Students (Age 6 to 18) $5; Under Age 6 FREE.
ONGOING SUMMER EVENTS
The Bass Pro Shops Family Summer Camp features FREE crafts, games, activities and workshops. Family Summer Camp runs Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays June 23-July 22 from Noon-5PM. Crafts are scheduled Noon-2PM.
The Kids Bowl FREE Summer Bowling Program is available in South Central PA. Each participating location has Program Days to receive FREE Games of Bowling All Summer long! Each bowling alley has its own start and finish dates and age restrictions. Read more HERE.
North Square Farmers Market is open every Saturday morning, 8AM to Noon, from May 26 to October 20, 2018. The market is located at 50 North Main Street, near King Street Church. Rain or shine.
The Chambersburg Aquatic Center is open daily till Labor Day. Single-day admission rates to the new facility will be $5 for borough residents and $9 for non-residents. Children under 3 yrs of age are free. Normal pool hours for daily admittance is 1PM – 8PM (season members can enter at noon – one hour earlier than the public).
The miniature train at Norlo Park will be up and running on Saturdays throughout Summer. The miniature train, complete with a cattle car and caboose, is free to ride on Saturdays from 1PM to 4PM. It is open to riders of all ages. Donations are accepted.
Free concerts at Chambersburg Memorial Park Kiwanis Band Shell continue all Summer long. View the dates HERE.
The Carlisle Parks and Recreation Department offers a medley of free cultural programs and musical concerts at the Thornwald Amphitheater known as the Summer Artist Series. The Carrol J. Warrell Theater of Arts, an outdoor theater, is host on Sunday evenings, June 3 – August 5 (no 6/17 and 7/1), weather permitting. This Sunday, June 24 is New Direction Band. Showing Friday through Sunday, June 22-24 at Cumberland Drive-In is Incredibles 2 and Avengers: Infinity War. Gates open at 7PM. First feature begins at approximately 9:15PM.
Tractor Supply holds affordable preventive vet clinics inside their stores for your dog, cat, puppy or kitten every Saturday at the Chambersburg & Shippensburg locations. Times are 10AM – 11:30AM at the Chambersburg store, 1733 Lincoln Way East or 1PM – 2:30PM at the Shippensburg store, 40 Shippensburg Shopping Center.
