National Civil War Museum Community Free Day

The National Civil War Museum will offer free admission on Saturday, February 16, 2019.  The Museum is proud to provide activities and entertainment for the community, completely free of charge, many of which will highlight topics on Black History Month.

From 10AM – 4PM, enjoy family activities such as the clothing station to try on period clothing and take selfies, coloring activity station, Officers for the Union living history, and Ladies for the Union living history.  There will be musical entertainment from the Long Hill String Band at 10:30AM, Noon, and 2PM.

Presentations:

11 AM:  Dr. Abigail Cooper (Brandeis University) – Presenting on Black Refugee or “Contraband Camps” in the American Civil War

1 PM:  Dr. Cheryl Renée Gooch presents: “Personal History is Social History”

2 PM:  Dean Auchenbaugh  – “Baseball during the Civil War” 

 

The National Civil War Museum is located at One Lincoln Circle at Reservoir Park in Harrisburg and is a nonprofit educational institution created to promote the preservation of information directly relevant to the American Civil War of 1861–1865. The National Civil War Museum incorporates collections of artifacts, manuscripts, documents, photographs, and other printed matter that exceed 24,000 items.
