Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend – June 7, 8 , and 9, 2019!
Shippensburg

June 7 is Ship First Fridays at the Shippensburg Station.  On Friday from 4:30PM-7PM, Big Richards Pizza and Holy Smokehouse BBQ will be set up at the Corner of Fort and Earl St in Shippensburg.  Music by Lucid Ruby.  In addition, downtown businesses will offer some First Friday fun.

  • Christ United Methodist Church, 47 E. King, 6-8PM, Carnival games, snacks, and bounce houses.
  • Whiskers Vintage and Vinyl, 37 E. Garfield St, 1-7PM, 50% off vinyl and 25% off clothing.
  • Krissy’s Blue Vase, 5 N. Fayette St., Chair massages 2-5PM.
  • Plum Baby, 328 E King Street, 25% off swaddle and receiving blankets, open until 7PM.
  • Robert T. Henry Pharmacy, 54 E King Street, Bubbles, snacks, and sidewalk chalk, Kombucha on tap.
  • Aloha Cafe, 20 W King, Extended hours until 7:30PM.
  • SHAPE Gallery, 19 E. King, Open members exhibit and free desserts from 6-8PM.
  • Shippen Stitch, 45 W King, 15% off Yarn.

On Friday, June 7 at 8PM the Shippensburg Historical Society invites you to come out and enjoy a campfire and special presentation.  Admission is free.  Just bring a lawn chair or blanket and history and s’mores will be provided!

The Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 5th annual Bloom Festival in downtown Shippensburg on June 8 from 9AM – 3PM.  The festival includes craft, retail, and food vendors, plant and flower sales, music, and children’s activities.  The Bloom Festival takes place rain or shine in the Borough Parking lot (Burd Street), across from the Shippensburg Police Department.  Admission is free.  Free parking will be at the Fire Fighters Activity Center (Orange St. and Neff Ave).

Downtown Organizations Investing Together (DOIT) of Shippensburg will be hosting their annual Sidewalk Chalk Contest on June 8.   Artists and artist groups will be creating their chalk masterpieces from 8AM – 11AM on a square of sidewalk in downtown Shippensburg.

The first ever bag piping competition in Shippensburg will be June 8, 9AM – 3PM at the Shippensburg Train Station. The Battle of the Bagpipes will include numerous bagpipers competing to be crowned the best. Spectators can sit back and enjoy the Scottish sounds. Beer, wine, and food will be available.

Come race with the Shippensburg Public Library in the Annual Duck Derby on Saturday, June 8. Duck certificates are available to purchase at the library for $5 per duck or $20 for six ducks.  The race will take place at the Branch Creek Bridge promptly at 1PM.

Maplewood Farm Market will be having their Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 8 from 8AM – 4PM. Enjoy FREE ice cream with strawberry toppings!  You may pick your own Strawberries ($2.39/lb) or buy from their supply in the store. ALL planters and hanging baskets will be 20% off. In addition, fresh strawberry pie ($8.50) and homemade short bread will be available.

The first Shippensburg Truck & Tractor Pull of the Season is Saturday, June 8 at 7PM at the Shippensburg Fairgrounds. Bring your lawn chairs.  Admission: Adults $10; Children (5-10) $5

Shippensburg Community Parks and Recreation Authority is hosting their first outdoor movie for the season!  On Saturday evening, June 8 head to the Shippensburg Station for How to Train Your Dragon:  The Hidden World.  The movie will start at dusk.  This is a FREE event!

Carlisle

The First Friday event in downtown Carlisle will showcase art galleries and restaurants featuring local and regional artists. There will also be fine crafters on the street and music coming from little pockets of downtown.

The annual Dickinson College U-Turn & Community Yard Sale will be held from 7:30AM to 1PM on Saturday, June 8 at Carlisle Fairgrounds, K Street entrance, inside building T.  Admission is free beginning at 8:30AM, but early birds can pay $5 at the door to enter at 7:30AM.  The Shippensburg/Chambersburg area yard sales can be found here Thursday mornings.

Penn State Master Gardeners in Cumberland County are hosting Family Garden Day on Saturday, June 8 between 10AM and 1PM at the Penn State Extension office, 310 Allen Road, Carlisle.  Family Garden Day offers free, fun garden and nature-related activities for the entire family to enjoy.

Celebrate the history and heritage of Kings Gap on Sunday, June 9, 1-5PM.  At Heritage Day, enjoy tours of the Carriage House and Cameron-Masland Mansion, live music from the era, and free horse-drawn wagon and carriage rides. Have fun and learn with historic games, clothespin doll craft, a cake walk, ice cream making/tasting, special exhibits and more.  Kings Gap Environmental Education Center is located at 500 Kings Gap Rd., Carlisle, PA.

Chambersburg

Dunkin’ Donuts is offering customers a free classic doughnut with the purchase of any beverage on June 7. The offer is available while supplies last at participating locations.

Enjoy First Friday on June 7, 5PM to 8PM in downtown Chambersburg. The theme is Health & Wellness. Kids’ activities on the square including healthy snacks and free face painting.  Scroll through this Facebook event for all the First Friday happenings!  The ninth annual Race Against Poverty 5K will be run through downtown Chambersburg (walk at 7PM, run at 8PM).  Race Day registration is permitted.

Outdoor Summer Movies are back this summer at Chambers Fort Park in downtown Chambersburg.   Coordinated by Downtown Chambersburg Inc., the FREE family-friendly movie series kicks off June 7 with Spiderman into the Spider-verse.   Guests are invited to bring dinner or snacks, blankets, and chairs.  The fun begins at dusk! 

The Cumberland Valley Relief Center is having a Chicken BBQ and Vendor/Craft/Yard sale event on Saturday, June 8 at 4225 Molly Pitcher Hwy S.  Chicken BBQ begins at 10:30AM and continues until sold out.  Shop the sale from 8AM – 3PM.

The 35th annual Book Sale of Friends of Legal Services will be held at Laird Hall on the campus of Wilson College on the following dates:  Friday, June 7: 9AM to 9PM; Saturday, June 8: 9AM to 5PM; Sunday, June 9: Noon to 4PM.  The sale will feature over 60,000 books at bargain prices!

Nitterhouse Masonry Products is hosting their Blowout Outlet Sale on Saturday, June 8 from 7AM – 1PM. This one day only outlet sale will be located at 2733 Molly Pitcher Hwy South on the plant side directly across from the regular outlet location on Rt. 11 South Chambersburg.  There will be exceptional deals – up to 75% off on Block, Pavers, Retaining Wall Block, Edging stone & much more!

Marion

The Marion Festivals sponsored by the Marion Athletic Association, Marion Town Committee, and Marion Volunteer Fire Company will be held on four Saturdays in June.  On June 1, June 8, June 15, and June 22 on the Festival Grounds in Marion enjoy good food, games, rides, and entertainment.  There will be three free shows each night – 6:15PM, 7:30PM, and 9PM.  The kitchen will open at 4:30PM.  There is no charge to park.

Waynesboro

Mainstreet Waynesboro’s Market at the Park is Saturday, June 8, 8:30AM – Noon at 25 E. Main St.  Produce, coffee, artisan cheese, farm-fresh milk and eggs, soaps, sandwiches, baked goods, flowers,  and Dawn and Dusk Donuts.

Saturday, June 8, the Greater Waynesboro PA Area Appalachian Trail Community offers a chance for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds to learn more about the Trail in the Mason-Dixon area, and to enjoy a variety of activities. Children’s activities include making bubbles, making pine cone bird feeders, planting flowers, train rides from 1-4PM on the Red Run Express, and stories and games. Free admission, the public is welcome 10AM – 4PM, rain or shine, at Red Run Park in Rouzerville, just west of where the Appalachian Trail crosses PA Rt. 16. (12143 Buchanan Trail East)

Ongoing Weekend Events

The Kids Bowl FREE Summer Bowling Program is available in South Central PA. Each participating location has Program Days to receive FREE Games of Bowling All Summer long!  Each bowling alley has its own start and finish dates and age restrictions.  Read more HERE.

North Square Farmers Market is located next to Chambers Fort Park and open every Saturday morning, 8AM to Noon. 

The miniature train at Norlo Park will be up and running on Saturdays throughout Summer.  The miniature train, complete with a cattle car and caboose, is free to ride on Saturdays from 1PM to 4PM.  It is open to riders of all ages.  Donations are accepted.

Free concerts at Chambersburg Memorial Park Kiwanis Band Shell continue all Summer long. View the dates HERE.

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is showing The Secret Life of Pets 2 and A Dog’s Journey, this weekend, June 7-9.  Gates open at 7PM. Double feature begins at approximately 9:05PM.
