Inside ARTECHOUSE Washington DC | Not your typical art museum!

Artechouse in Washington, DC opened in June 2017 and is an innovative art space where art meets technology.  The current exhibition is “Infinite Space” by Turkish-born, Los Angeles-based artist Refik Anadol.  “Infinite Space” is on view through September 2, 2019.

At Artechouse, digital art is presented on a large screen in the main gallery.  Guests are invited to sit back on beanbag chairs to view the ever changing images (approximately 30 minutes).

Off the main room is the Data Tunnel, a corridor covered in mirrors, including the floor.  This date tunnel leads to three infinity boxes, called the Media Lab.

Data from wind patterns in cities such as Seoul, Dubai, and Boston depicted below.

Another exhibit, The Infinity Room is a mirrored box that shuts up to four people inside as swirling light patterns dance around for approximately two minutes.

The gallery welcomes visitors of any age from 10AM to 5PM (website recommends age 6+ for “Infinite Space”). Because exhibitions change throughout the year, visitors should refer to the description of each new exhibition for age recommendations. Artechouse can be explored in an hour or less.  In the evening, it invites the 21+ crowd to enjoy the art and bar.

Online admission rates (timed entry) are as follows:

  • Adults (15-64) $16
  • Students, Seniors & Military $13
  • Children (2-14) $8

There is currently a deal for discounted admission on CertifiKID for Sunday-Thursday daytime admission now through Monday, September 2.

Artechouse Washington, DC is located between Smithsonian and L’Enfant Plaza metro stations at 1238 Maryland Ave., SW, Washington, DC, just next door to the Mandarin Oriental hotel.
