Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend!

SHIPPENSBURG

Southampton Township Cumberland County Park and Recreation will be hosting a Fall Fling on Saturday, October 5, 11AM – 2PM at the Multi-Purpose Center located at 56 Cleversburg Road. There will be bounce houses, music, food vendors, face painting, pumpkin painting, and pony rides.  There is a $5 armband which will get you everything excluding vendor sales and food and the pony rides.

Pumpkin Patch Playtime will be held October 5 from Noon – 3PM at The Local Gathering, 611 Shippensburg Rd.  Pumpkin Painting; Bobbing for Apples; Pumpkin Bowling; Pin the Stem on the Pumpkin and Fishing for Candy. Ticket prices $5/child or $20/immediate family.

The Lurgan Township “Roxbury” Lions Club is proud to host Comedian Earl David Reed on Saturday October 5.  Doors Open at 5PM; Dinner at 6PM; and Show Starts at 7:30PM.  Tickets are $35 at the door.

Shippensburg University’s football team takes on West Chester on Saturday, October 5 at 1PM at SU Student Association Field at Seth Grove Stadium.

NEWVILLE/CARLISLE

Oktoberfest takes place on October 4 through October 6 at the US Army Heritage and Education Center.  Carlisle Oktoberfest includes carnival rides, contests, and an arts and crafts fair on Saturday only. There will be a wide selection of adult and kiddie rides, carnival foods, free standing games & game trailers.  Hours:  Friday: 4 – 10PM, Saturday: 11AM – 10PM, Sunday: 11AM – 6PM.  The Army Heritage & Education Center (AHEC) is located at  950 Soldiers Drive, Carlisle, PA.

On Sunday, October 6 from Noon to 5PM celebrate autumn at Garden Harvest Day at Kings Gap.  A variety of activities for all ages including apple cider pressing, apple butter making, pumpkin painting, bird feeder building, children’s games and crafts, hay rides, and mum and pumpkin walk.  Admission is free although nominal fees will be charged for all “make and take” items.  All activities will be held in and around the mansion area.

Maple Lane Farm’s Corn Maze at 150 Crossroad School Rd is open this weekend.  The corn maze highlights the Big Spring School District’s mascot, the bulldogs.  Hours are Saturdays from 1PM-7PM and Sundays from 1PM-6PM through October 27.  Admission is $7 per person; ages 5 and younger are free.  Pony rides will be provided by Winsome Farm Ranch Resort from 2PM-6PM this weekend for an additional $5.

On Saturdays through the Fall, Meadowbrooke Gourds will be giving Trolley rides to the gourd fields. This tour of the farm begins at 11AM on Saturdays and will cost $5 per person, ages 3 and under will be free if held.  Reservations are strongly recommended. Payment will be collected by the driver the day of the tour.  Rides are contingent on weather conditions.  Also, visit their sunflower fields which are free to pick!

Warehime’s Pumpkin Patch is open for the Fall Season.  The pumpkin patch (and FREE Sunflowers) is just a short distance from Meadowbrooke Gourds.  This year they have added a corn maze ($7 per person).

Fall Carlisle Collector Car Swap Meet, 1000 Bryn Mawr Road Carlisle will take place October 2 – 6.  Explore one of the world’s largest automotive swap meets, featuring 150 acres and 8,100 vending spaces. Carlisle Fairgrounds, Carlisle.

DILLSBURG

At Paulus Orchards, you can celebrate fall harvest season on a farm.  On Saturdays 9AM-6:30PM & Sundays Noon-5:30PM, enjoy the 5 acre “Wizard of Oz” Corn Maze, Play Land, Wagon Ride, Pick-your-own apples, Pumpkin Patch, and more.  All day Weekend Farm Admission $9.99 (ages 3 and up). Seniors $5 (age 65+). Children 2 and under are free.

CHAMBERSBURG

North Square Farmers Market is Chambersburg’s only open air market.  The market is located next to Chambers Fort Park and is open every Saturday morning, 8AM to Noon.

The Cumberland Valley Philatelic Society will hold its Fall Stamp Expo on Saturday October 5, 10AM – 5PM at the Chambersburg Recreation Center, 235 South 3rd St, Chambersburg. The Expo is free and open to the public.  It will feature dealers, exhibits and sales.

There will be a Fall Carnival on October 5 at Pleasant View Mennonite Church, 346 Warm Spring Rd., Chambersburg,  From 11AM-2PM, enjoy a bounce house, face painting, free food, “snazzy balloons,” games and crafts.  This is a free community wide event for families!

Country Creek Produce Farm in Chambersburg is open for Fall fun.  The farm’s attractions include “Circus” corn maze, jump pad, peddle track, quad mountain slides, u-pick pumpkins, hayrides, animals, pumpkin cannon, and more!  The flashlight night maze starts this weekend- Fri & Sat 6-10PM!

Join Antrim BIC Church, 24 Kauffman Rd E. on October 5 at 3PM for an afternoon filled with hay rides, face painting, crafts, pumpkins, candy, games, prizes, and Food Trucks (Pully Wissle Provisions, Wheel House Cafe, & More). End your evening with a movie starting at 6:30PM. Activities and Movie are FREE!

St. Paul Special Events is pleased to welcome the Manor Winds Quintet for a concert of classical selections on Sunday, October 6, at 3PM in the church nave of St. Paul United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA. A free will offering will be taken.

MERCERSBURG

Cumberland Valley Woodcarvers’ Show will take place Saturday and Sunday at the Charles Brightbill Environmental Center located on the campus of the James Buchanan High School.  The show is open to the public.  Hours:  October 5 9AM – 4PM and October 6 1PM – 4PM.

Stoner’s Dairy Farm and Corn Maze offers plenty of weekend Fall activities.  They are hosting a special event on October 5 from Noon to 10PM with added fun for $7 per person.  Attractions include the Corn Maze, Mini Maze, Hayrides, Petting Zoo, Pedal Cart Track, Play Area, Giant Inflatable, Magic Shows, Pumpkin Contest, and Prizes & Giveaways.  Stoner’s Dairy is a short drive off I-81 at 7678 Oellig Road in Mercersburg.

The Mercersburg Beer and Wine Festival will be held Saturday, October 5 at the Mercersburg Lions Club Park at 405 S. Park Ave. Gates for regular admission open at 1PM and close at 4PM, VIP Entry is at 12PM.  The Mercersburg Beer and Wine Festival will offer an impressive array of 5+ wineries and vintners and 15+ Breweries with 30+ craft beers. Parking is FREE at the event. This is a rain or shine festival.

WAYNESBORO

Market Day on October 5 features all-day entertainment, including live music, dancing demonstrations, sidewalk sales, children’s activities and dozens of craft, specialty and food vendors. Entries in the annual Scarecrow Contest are displayed along Main Street lamp posts. The event takes place 9AM – 4PM on Main Street in Waynesboro.

Slugs & Bugs Live will be at Five Forks Church on Saturday, October 5 at 6:30PM. The concert is geared toward elementary school age children and their parents.  Tickets are $10 at the door.

BIGLERVILLE

Pick-Your-Own Apples is going on this weekend at Boyer’s Nurseries & Orchards.  Please call to see what apple varieties are available to be picked.  Picking bags are provided. Pricing is $0.75 per pound. Sign-in at the fruit market and they will show you where to go.  While there, don’t forget to explore the live, evergreen hedge maze.

The National Apple Harvest Festival held during the first two full weekends in October celebrates beautiful crafts, great music and wonderful food.  This year the festival will be held on October 5 & 6 and October 12 & 13, 2019.  The festival has something for everyone with hundreds of arts and crafts dealers, demonstrations, contests, food stands and entertainment. For Tickets go here.  The National Apple Harvest Festival is located at the South Mountain Fairgrounds and is held outdoors rain or shine!

NEWPORT

The Little Buffalo Festival on October 5 at Little Buffalo State Park will host musicians on three stages, arts, crafts, the Buffalo Kids Artsfest, poetry readings, workshops, demonstrations and great food.  Admission is free but donations are accepted.  Hours:  Noon to dusk, rain or shine.

MANHEIM

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is in its 39th season of bringing history to life.  Every Saturday and Sunday through October 27 the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is open on the grounds of Mount Hope Estate. Residents of the 35-acre village are musicians, magicians, jousting knights, and royals. Each weekend throughout Faire season will showcase a unique theme that offers a different experience.

ROCKHILL

This Saturday, October 5, at the Rockhill Trolley Museum is the Fall Festival of Trolleys.  The first trolley departs at 10AM and the last trolley departs at 5PM.  Ride and photograph trolleys that are not normally operated during our regular operating days. Enjoy a leisurely trip with a step back into time as you travel by the Rockhill Iron Furnace ruins to the Blacklog Narrows and back.  All tickets are multi-ride, $10 for adults, $6 for children 2-12 and under 2 is free.
