School Districts and Restaurants offering children free lunches during school closures
Many school districts are making arrangements to ensure no student goes hungry as school doors close due to COVID-19. If your child needs something to eat while they are out of school for the next two weeks, here is a listing of a few schools and restaurants stepping up to help. This list will be updated as additional sites are added.
School Districts
Shippensburg Area School District
Shippensburg Area School District is making plans to provide free meals to all children 18 and under during the school closure. Meals will be served from 7AM – Noon Monday through Friday starting on March 17. Meals will be served at the front curb of James Burd Elementary and the Senior High School. Breakfast and lunch may be picked up at the same time. No registration or sign up is necessary.
Any Big Spring School District families with children ages 18 & under and in need of food for your children, please complete this form on the district website. Pick up location is Newville Elementary. You may also reserve via phone, call 717-776-2000 between 10-11AM on Wednesday, March 18. Another request cycle will open on Monday, March 23 for pick up on Tuesday, March 24 (for Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday meals).
The Carlisle School District is working with PDE and the US Department of Agriculture to provide boxed/bagged meals to students. Meals will be provided at two locations at designated times. Some items are perishable and will require refrigeration. Food allergies or restrictions can not be accommodated. Families must monitor their own children’s specific needs. Every child who is receiving a meal must be present at the time of pick-up to receive a meal. Families must sign up on this form to indicate that they would like to pick up meals from the District: www.carlisleschools.org/foodpickup.
Chambersburg Area School District
The Superintendent at Chambersburg Area School District (Dion Betts) announced in a Facebook post that bag lunches will be provided at Ben Chambers, Second Street Park, and Franklin County housing parking lot starting Tuesday, March 17. Lunches will be available on days school would normally be in session, at the times and locations listed below:
10:45 AM – 11:20 AM – Franklin County housing parking lot (440 W Washington St)
11:30 AM – 12:15 PM – Second Street Park (448 S 2nd St)
11:30 AM – 12:30 PM – Ben Chambers Elementary School parking lot (481 N Franklin St)
Tuscarora School District will serve breakfast and lunch during the school closure. St. Thomas and Mercersburg elementary schools will offer grab and go breakfast and lunch Monday-Friday during the closure. Breakfast from 8:30AM-9:30AM. Lunch from 11:30AM-1:00PM. Kids 18 and under eat free. Adults $2 for breakfast and $3 for lunch. Meals will start on Monday, March 16, 2020.

Alfredo’s Pizza
Alfredo’s Pizza is offering children that are on a reduced or free meal program 2 slices of pizza and a beverage. Stop by Monday through Friday between 11AM and 2PM. Alfredo’s Pizza is located at 397 Baltimore Road, Shippensburg, PA.
Pizza Man
Pizza Man will be offering two slices of pizza and a drink free of charge to any school-aged child in need. Stop by Monday – Friday (closed Tuesdays) from 11AM-2PM. Dine-in or takeout. Pizza Man is located at 201 N. Seneca Street, Shippensburg, PA.
Italian Village
Italian Village will be offering Greene Township elementary students their choice of a free slice of cheese pizza or a kids pasta with tomato sauce during their time off of school until March 30, Monday- Friday 11AM-1PM, take out only. Italian Village is located at 5267 Philadelphia Ave, Chambersburg.
Kane’s Korner PIzzeria
Kane’s Korner Pizzeria will be giving a slice of cheese or a slice of pepperoni pizza accompanied by a fountain drink of choice to Big Spring students affected by the school being closed for two weeks. This offer is from 11AM-1PM Monday through Friday (3/16/2020-3/27/2020) for those in need. Kane’s Korner Pizzeria is located at 2 W. Big Spring Avenue, Newville.
Kings Gap Store
Starting Monday, March 16, Kings Gap Store will be offering free lunch (sandwich, a small bag of chips, and a drink) to students who are part of the free and reduced lunch program or those who are unable to get food at home. All districts welcome! Kings Gap Store is located at 1155 Pine Rd, Carlisle, PA.
Roy-Pitz Beer Stube
Roy Pitz will be giving a free bagged lunch to any school-aged child in need beginning Tuesday, March 17. A free bagged lunch will be offered Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 AM – 1PM while supplies last. Roy-Pitz is located at 140 N. Third Street, Chambersburg, PA.
Caretti’s Pizza (Lincoln Way East location)
Caretti’s Pizza on Lincoln Way East next to Walmart in Chambersburg, PA will be offering a free lunch to Chambersburg School District students. Starting on Tuesday, March 17 between 11:30AM and 12:30PM students may stop in for a slice of pizza, a banana, and water or fruit punch while schools are closed.
Pat and Carla’s II
Pat and Carla’s 2 and Sites’ garage of St. Thomas are teaming up to support the children of St. Thomas Elementary during their time away from school. Children (St. Thomas elementary grade students only) will have their choice of a slice of cheese pizza or Bambino and a juice box for lunch, Monday through Friday from 11AM – 1PM until April 1. Pat and Carla’s II is located at 3218 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA.
Romeo’s Cafe
With the news that Tuscarora School District will be closing, Romeo’s will be offering any student lunch free of charge. Students can come in and grab two slices of pizza and a soda between the hours of 11AM and 2PM. Romeo’s Cafe is located at 66 Church Street, Mercersburg, PA.
