The Smithsonian’s National Zoo Reopens May 21

The Smithsonian’s National Zoo is reopening May 21, 2021.  Admission is free, but entry passes are required, and visitors must follow safety measures. All visitors to the Zoo require a FREE Timed-entry Pass or a Paid Parking pass.

Option 1: Free Timed Pass (walking into the Zoo):  If you walk, bike, taxi, or take public transportation, you must have a timed entry pass for each person in your group.
Option 2: Paid Parking Pass (parking at the Zoo):  If you drive and park at the Zoo, your Paid Parking Pass ($30 per car) covers entry for everyone in your personal vehicle.

Reservations open Friday, May 14.  You must reserve your timed entry pass or your paid parking pass online before visiting the Zoo. To reserve a pass, visit si.edu/tickets or call 1-800-514-3849 ext. 1.  Groups larger than six are strictly prohibited.

Free, timed Asia Trail/Panda Passes are required for giant panda viewing and can be reserved on-site on the day of your visit. For the safety of visitors, staff, and animals, a limited number of Panda Passes are available each day.

The Smithsonian’s National Zoo is located in the heart of northwest Washington, D.C., spans 163 acres, and includes 2,700 animals, representing more than 390 species.  The Smithsonian closed its museums last March at the start of the pandemic. Between July and October 2020, the Smithsonian reopened eight of its facilities before closing them to the public again in late November.
