Shippensburg & Chambersburg
Reins of Rhythm invites you to bring your children for a free drop-in community event, Ponies in the Park. This fun educational event offers “Pony Tales,” a horse-powered reading enrichment program for youth. Activity stations include Magic-E soccer, Word Herd Round-up, Label the Horse Funny Bunny Rhyming Egg Hunt, Pony Tales Stories, CREATE Crafts, Hand-print on a HORSE!
The event is offered on two dates:
- Friday, March 25, 2022, from 4:30 PM – 6 PM, outside the Chambersburg Mall, 3055 Black Gap Road, Chambersburg
- Saturday, March 26, 2022, from 11 AM – 1 PM, at Shippensburg Township Park, 304 Britton Road, Shippensburg
This event is recommended for ages 4-10. The event is made possible by the Partnership for Better Health and the generosity of Shippensburg Township Park and the Chambersburg Mall.

Rita’s is celebrating the first day of spring with free Italian ice again this year, but you must have the Rita’s app. Don’t forget to redeem the offer for a free cup of Italian ice no later than Sunday, March 27.

Southampton Township Cumberland County Park and Rec would like to present the annual St. Patrick’s Day 5k Race held at the Southampton Township Community Center. The run/walk will take place on Saturday, March 26, at 10:30 AM. More information at https://cvraceseries.us/RaceDirector/RaceDirector.php The St. Patrick’s Day 5k is part of the Cumberland Valley Race Series, a yearlong competition held throughout the Cumberland Valley.
Roxbury
There is public skating at the Blue Mountain Skating Rink on Friday evenings from 7-9 PM. $4 admission and $1 skates. Children under 6 are free and non-skating adults are free as well. The Blue Mountain Skating Rink is located 1 mile west of Roxbury, on Rt 641.
There will be a Hop into Spring Craft Show on March 26 at Newburg United Methodist Church, 203 N. High St., 8 AM – 2 PM. More than 25 local vendors will be on hand, including Backwoods Craftsmen, Kitzmiller’s Wood Crafts, Barrick’s Metal Works, The Words in 3 Square, 4 Herbs & 7 Spices, 3 Goat Soaps, Carmen Kelly, Elaine’s Treasures, Hoover’s Hollow Creations, Ally Kats Country Store, Mountain Valley Creations, Pressured Beauties, Family Creations, Mason Grove Farms, Redemption BBQ, Uncle Eddie’s BBQ, and Red Neck Dogs. There will be a spring photo booth too!

Roll into Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, Chambersburg, on March 26, with what you wore to bed to receive a free waffle cone at the window! Bruster’s customer appreciation day is March 26, 2022, from 11 AM – 9 PM. So stop by in your coolest pair of pajamas and receive a FREE small waffle cone. Hoodies, t-shirts, gym shorts, sweatpants, and athletic pants do not count as pajamas. Bruster’s Real Ice Cream is located at 500 Gateway Ave, Chambersburg.
Chambersburg
St. Paul United Methodist Church will host a Spring Craft Show on Saturday, March 26, from 9 AM – 3 PM in the St. Paul Family Life Center. There will be crafters, artists, and authors selling various specialty items. Food will be available for purchase from Coach’s Corner BBQ.

The Franklin County Rock and Mineral Club sponsor the 42nd annual Gem, Mineral, and Jewelry Show in Chambersburg. Vendors will display jewelry, cut and uncut gems, fossils, and unique mineral specimens for sale. Club members will also have the famous spinning wheel to win rock specimens. The show will be held Saturday, March 26, 10 AM – 5 PM, and Sunday, March 27, 10 AM – 4 PM at the Eugene C. Clarke Jr. Community Center, 235 South Third Street, Chambersburg. Admission is $6. Children under 12 are free. Fat Russ BBQ will be on-site too!

A Smith’s Chicken BBQ benefits St. John’s Nursery School on Saturday, March 26, from 10 AM – 1:30 PM. Smith’s will be set up in the parking lot of Lowe’s Chambersburg. Meal ($13) includes 1/2 chicken, baked potato, baked beans, roll with butter, and your choice of applesauce or macaroni salad.

Rural King’s Grand Opening at 1005 Wayne Avenue, Chambersburg is March 26 – March 29. The store is open daily 7 AM – 9 PM. A general merchandise store, Rural King provides a mix of items for farm, yard, garden, and home.
Pleasant Hall
A drive-thru Smith’s Chicken BBQ will be at Pleasant Hall Volunteer Fire Company on Sunday, March 27, from 11 AM until 2 PM. Chicken Dinners are $13 and include 1/2 BBQ Chicken, Baked Potato, Baked Beans, Roll with Butter, Macaroni Salad, or Applesauce. In addition, whole pies will be for sale. No preorders for this event are being taken–just drive-in. Cash or check accepted.
Harrisburg
The 74th annual Zembo Shrine Circus is going on now through Sunday, March 27, at the Zembo Shrine Auditorium in Harrisburg. Multiple shows are available, and parking is free in the Third Street lots. No wild animals will be performing in this year’s circus.
Statewide
A Mentored Youth Trout Day will take place on Saturday, March 26, 8 AM through 7:30 PM. Each child (under age 16) may keep two trout at least 7 inches long. Mentors may fish but must release any trout they catch and are encouraged to fish with the children. The mentor must have a Pennsylvania fishing license and a trout permit. The mentored youth permit (free), voluntary youth fishing license ($2.97), regular fishing license ($22.97), and trout stamp ($9.97) are available through the online fishing, boating, and hunting license platform, Hunt Fish PA.
