Shippensburg Cave to be featured on America Unearthed

The Travel Channel will feature a Shippensburg Cave on America Unearthed on Tuesday, June 11, 2019.

The television crew traveled to Shippensburg in January to film Tuesdays show, Cave of Secrets.  In the episode (Season 4, Episode 4), they check out Courtney Cave and its ties to the Underground Railroad.

Watch Tuesday evening at 10PM to see Shippensburg and the Shippensburg Historical Society featured on TV!

About America Unearthed

Forensic geologist Scott Wolter digs through the surprising burial ground that is America for archaeological secrets as he tries to turn a lot of what we know about US history on its head. He uncovers compelling theories that predate the official “discovery” of the New World and finds evidence of the great lengths people have gone to cover up these mysteries. What he unearths continues to prove there are plenty of secrets buried in America’s past.

I watched the episode titled “Cave of Secrets” and was interested to know if the Masonic Lodge in Shippensburg has a record of the Knights of the Golden Eagle and its membership. At one time my Great Great Grandfather Courtney Hargleroad owned the property at 304 West King Street. When my Grandfather Fred K. Hargleroad owned the property there was a secret room, maybe 4′ x 6′, it had a small window to give the room light and a built in seat with storage area. I believe it was part of the house when Courtney owned the house. Might Courtney have been a member of the Knights of the Golden Eagle? If that is so, then maybe there was a connection between that secret room at #304 and the cave at #302. My father, Dr. John A. Hargleroad II was a Mason. There are other members of our family, past and present who are, too.
